Former Buckeyes Thomas and Lighty lead squad to French Cup title

A couple of former Buckeyes, David Lighty and Deshaun Thomas led their team to the 2014 Coupe de France. The pair played for JSF Nanterre which beat SLUC Nancy Basket Pro, 55-50. Thomas was drafted by the Spurs in 2013, and played for their summer league squad. He signed with Nanterre in August of 2013. Deshaun scored 12 points and grabbed 12 boards in the final. David Lighty chipped in 10 points.

Miley Cyrus shows Buckeye love, sends former player to 'rock bottom'

It's been quite a year for Miley Cyrus. She's already tainted the previously innocent foam finger and made a kitten into an enormous, frightening prospect. Her latest stunt is not quite so wild but managed to get the attention of a former Ohio State basketball player. Cyrus performed a show on her "Bangerz Tour" Sunday night at The Schottenstein Center in Columbus...

Buckeyes hope they learned lesson

There's something about traveling to Northwestern that seems to summon problems for the Ohio State Buckeyes. A year ago, the Buckeyes were ranked 10th and the Wildcats were headed for a losing record in the Big Ten. Yet it took Jared Sullinger's banked-in turnaround with 3.1 seconds left for Ohio State to escape with a 75-73 win. In 2011, the Buckeyes were 22-0 and No....

Cavs Tristan Thompson to headline #Battle4Ohio Game for Team Cleveland

The Battle for Ohio Celebrity Game tips off at noon ET in Columbus tomorrow, and Tristan Thompson will be headlining the event for Team Cleveland. Pretty cool of the Canada native to adapt his new area code as his own and make that trek down I-71 to participate I think. Evan Turner, who averaged 11 and 8 during 13 playoff games for the Sixers this past season, will be headlining...

Kyrie Irving comes through the Word Church Summer League in Cleveland

Last night I stopped by the Word Church in Warrensville Heights for opening night of the Dru Joyce Summer League. Tons of Cleveland area basketball legends were in the building, with games going on two courts starting at 630. For the 830 game, the great Earl Boykins came through and matched-up against Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis. Cleveland's own Chet Mason had his team playing...

On Game One of the NBA Finals, Danny Ferry and David Lighty

I was in my car for most of the last two days. I drove to Washington DC on Monday, then down to Carolina yesterday. Much of that ride I spent trying to understand how LeBron James could team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and be getting 5 points in an NBA game against anybody. It seemed unfathomable to me until I watched Russell Westbrook play last night. He completely overwhelmed...

NBA Free Agency: Cleveland Native David Lighty to try out for Cavaliers

Perhaps a year later than many fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State Buckeyes would prefer, but Cleveland native David Lighty will try out for the Wine and Gold on June 28th with hopes of providing a much-needed scoring punch from the shooting guard position. Per The Plain Dealer’s Mary Schmitt Boyer, the stop in Cleveland is one of several that the swingman has planned...

Burn, Motherf*cker, Burn

Uh, is that a DAVID LIGHTY jersey in there??? On Monday, Prime alerted us to a segment of Jim Rome’s radio show where he was discussing a potential sequel to the Vancouver riots due to their hockey team being a bunch of horrible *******. Prime then asked me to write up a post regarding when it is OK and when it is not OK to riot. I admit that I am no expert on the topic but it’s...

Ohio State Thrashes Indiana While The Missouri Valley Scuffles

#5 Ohio State 80, #8 Indiana 63I don't think that anybody paying attention was too surprised by this result. This game got plenty of hype because of the programs involved and their rankings in the polls, but this was a revenge game for the Buckeyes. And remember, Indiana had absolutely everything go right for them in Bloomington, and that game still came down to the final seconds...

Are the Buckeyes facing an identity crisis?

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Who, exactly, are these guys? The Ohio State Buckeyes themselves are starting to wonder. Among the problems plaguing a team that ranked as high as No. 2 nationally five weeks ago is a lack of identity -- and the lack of consistency and confidence that comes with such a problem. A year ago, a big part of the reason the Buckeyes were No. 1 for much of the winter...

Big Ten First Look: Ohio State

Last year, the Ohio State Buckeyes were the best team in college basketball. Yes, they lost in the Sweet-Sixteen to a criminally under-rated Kentucky team, but the Buckeyes, over the course of the season, demonstrated themselves to be the most accomplished team. It started with their offense – they featured four players who nailed more than 37% of their three-point attempts, each...
