Weathers signs
Before my power goes out again here is the news of the day.David Weathers avoided arbitration and signed a 1 year deal with a team option for 2010. The money breaks down like this2009: $3.5 million2010: $3.7 million or $400,000 buyoutSolid deal for the Reds and Weathers. He some how continues to get people out with the biggest skill of all grittiness.

Weathers accepts arbitration
John Fay:Right-hander David Weathers accepted arbitration. That means he goes on the 40-man roster. With the year he had last year, my guess is he'll get between $3 and $4 million in arbitration.I was hoping he would not take it so the Reds would get the extra pick. How un-David Weathers like. He normally scares us to death loads the bases then pulls out some crap to get out of a...

D**** W*******, M*** L****, J** O***** and more!
Okay, admittedly I got carried away with the headline. David Weathers is no longer a Red, and he certainly had some good moments for our favorite team, so I guess I can start typing his full name out again.
Anyway, some items in the news:
–The Reds received an undisclosed amount of cash from the Brewers to complete the Aug. 9 trade for Weathers. My sources indicate the amount was...

Trades Can Hurt
The Reds traded David Weathers to Milwaukee Sunday, and David wasn’t happy:
“Walt Jocketty isn’t the most popular guy with my son right now,” he said.
You tend to forget the human element when a trade happens. Sunday’s trade took Weathers completely by surprise. His family is home in Tennessee — two of his three kids have [...]

Griffey Throws A Throat Slash Gesture At Reds' Announcer Jeff Brantley
Jeff Brantley hasn't been making many friends in the Reds clubhouse this year and it appears that players are fed up with him. So much so that the level headed Ken Griffey Jr gestured to him with a throat slash following a homerun on Saturday night. Here's the background and the video (:30 mark as he enters the dugout)....CINCINNATI ? For those who read Ken Griffey Jr....

Aaron Harang's Complete Game Defines Reds Season
In Harang's last start of the year, he shut down the Pirates for his 6th complete game of the year (Tied with CC Sabathia for most in the Majors). The Reds have not had more than 6 complete games as an entire team since 2000. While this points towards the development and durability of Harang, it also identifies what's wrong with the club.
"Harang's feat is...

For unknown reasons, Jake Peavey suddenly looks like David Weathers if he were one of the Germans in the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. He's clearly solved the humidity riddle. [Screengrab via MLB.com]

Reds Lose to Phillies In the Ninth
Man, this was a tough one. The Reds led as late as the sixth inning and then David Weathers gave up a run in the ninth to lose it. In the end, Homer Bailey’s third straight solid start (I think he’s finally starting to get it) went to waste. he gave up two runs on [...]

Reds offer arbitration to David Weathers, plan to talk to Kerry Wood
Not much of a surprise considering David Weathers is a type B free agent meaning they will get a supplemental draft pick if he signs else where. Of course the other possibilities are that they either sign him to a new deal, or he goes to the arbitrator and gets a 1 year deal at what ever they set the salary at. Either way it's pretty safe bet in my mind.In other non surprising...

D**** W******* is retired?
Well, kinda. If the right team calls, David Weathers says he’ll listen, but it doesn’t sound like the phone is ringing off the hook.
I will freely admit that my dislike for Weathers has been completely irrational. He always seemed like a great guy, his teammates clearly liked him, and he really had some great moments for the Reds*. The bad moments just added up for me...

Cordero to the Mets ?
Closer Billy Wagner long tossed but still is experiencing pain and Omar Minaya doesn't believe the Mets will be making a deal before the post season roster deadline ( Aug. 31 ) but there's still a slight chance they could make something happen.
