Jake Peavey just minutes away from being hospitalized
For unknown reasons, Jake Peavey suddenly looks like David Weathers if he were one of the Germans in the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. He's clearly solved the humidity riddle. [Screengrab via MLB.com]

The Return of D**** W*******
How frustrated have I become with the state of the Reds bullpen? Well, last night, I tweeted that the Reds really need to place a surreptitious phone call to David Weathers.
John Fay placed that call today.

Best Yankee Internet Sites
If there’s one thing the Yankees aren’t, it’s underreported. And not just on TV or in the newspapers. On the intertubes, there are dozens and dozens of places people can go to find out information, some mainstream media, some just regular Yankee fans. Let’s check on just a few of the best. And the worst.

D**** W******* is retired?
Well, kinda. If the right team calls, David Weathers says he’ll listen, but it doesn’t sound like the phone is ringing off the hook.
I will freely admit that my dislike for Weathers has been completely irrational. He always seemed like a great guy, his teammates clearly liked him, and he really had some great moments for the Reds*. The bad moments just added up for me...

David Weathers: Last Champion Standing
I'm addicted to the winter Olympics these days and totally psyched about our men's hockey team. Of course, that means an entry about the 1992 Toronto Blue Jays.
The B-R Blog & Stat of the Day has pointed out that David Weathers remains as the last active player to play on a World Series winning team from 1992 or earlier. David Weathers made 2 insignificant August appearances...

Arbitration out this year
Nobody gets an offer this year. The Brewers decided Tuesday not to offer salary arbitration to any of their five Class B free agents - centerfielder Mike Cameron, catcher Jason Kendall, infielder Felipe Lopez, right-hander Braden Looper and reliever David Weathers.

Brewers Do Not Offer Arb To Any Free Agents
The Brewers chose not to offer arbitration to any of their free agents, tweets Tom Hauricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The Brewers had five Type Bs in Braden Looper, David Weathers, Felipe Lopez, Jason Kendall, and Mike Cameron. A case could've been made for Lopez, but GM Doug Melvin said earlier that they didn't have a spot for him.

Free Agent Arbitration Primer
What does it mean when we say a free agent was offered arbitration? When a team offers arbitration to one of its own free agents, it is offering the player a 2010 contract at a to-be-determined salary. Last year, out of 24 such offers, only two players (Darren Oliver and David Weathers) accepted. One reason "offering arbitration" to free agents is confusing is that the...

Nine Brewers To Hit Open Market
Brewers GM Doug Melvin told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com on Wednesday that he expects all of his club's potential free agents to reach the open market."No," said Melvin.. "I don't think they want to sign, personally.
They want to wait until Friday and hope someone picks up the phone and
makes them an offer they never thought they would get."The...

Baseball's Free Agency System Is Seriously, Seriously Screwed Up
It's hot stove season, and the annual release of Elias' free agent rankings is upon us. It speaks to the volume of the CBA's absurdities that we rarely appreciate just how awful this system is. A quick recap for that majority of you who couldn't give a toss about baseball until springtime: as part of the collective bargaining agreement, MLB and the Players Association...

Week In Review: 10/11/09 - 10/17/09
Lots of talk about extensions and looking ahead to 2010 this week as the playoffs continue. Let's take a look:
We learned that John Smoltz is contemplating a return for 2010 and would like to return to the Cardinals if he pitches. The other question raised for the Cardinals, though, is whether or not Tony La Russa and/or Dave Duncan will return. And what's going...

D**** W*******, M*** L****, J** O***** and more!
Okay, admittedly I got carried away with the headline. David Weathers is no longer a Red, and he certainly had some good moments for our favorite team, so I guess I can start typing his full name out again.
Anyway, some items in the news:
–The Reds received an undisclosed amount of cash from the Brewers to complete the Aug. 9 trade for Weathers. My sources indicate the amount was...
