DEE FORD NEWS

Behind the draft: Dee Ford

I’ll admit to reacting the same way most of Chiefs Kingdom did when they heard Dee Ford’s name called on May 8. I was sitting in El Dorado, Kan. at the sports bar I worked at when it happened. Everyone knew how sure I was Kansas City would pick up a receiver or an offensive lineman because it was all I’d talked about that whole week. Then Chiefs general manager John Dorsey...

Auburn Releases 2014 Hype Video “Where Will You Be”

The Auburn Tigers enter the 2014 season with a bit of a target on their backs. Last year they came out of nowhere and had some incredible finishes and wins. They have lost some key guys like Tre Mason, Greg Robinson and Dee Ford but figure to be good again this year. Now the school has released a 2014 hype video titled “Where Will You Be?” which should get their fans hyped for the season.

Chiefs grab Phillip Gaines with third-round pick

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs selected defensive back Phillip Gaines from Rice in the third round of the NFL draft Friday night, helping a pass defense that was shredded by Indianapolis in the playoffs. Kansas City was in need of safety help after losing starter Kendrick Lewis in free agency. It is possible that Gaines could ultimately make the switch to that position. "It doesn...

New Chiefs OLB Dee Ford wants 'to be a Hall-of-Famer'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The legend says that Dee Ford once locked himself in a room for six months -- a little chunk at a time, we hope -- and wouldn't come out until he had mastered the keyboards. Mastered it. He was 12 years old. Kid got good. "Crazy good," James Ford Jr., Dee's older brother, said, "within a span of six months. So it took a lot of mental toughness." The Kansas City...

It’s a special moment that is usually only witnessed by a select few, but thanks to video, we get to experience it, too. Hate the pick all you like, but the Chiefs filled a position of need with DE Dee Ford

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Before you throw another brick at the TV, consider this: Dee Ford pressed 225 pounds 29 times at his pro day. He ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash. His vertical leap? A cool 35 1/2 inches. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Jadeveon Clowney benched 225 pounds 21 times. Khalil Mack ran a 4.65. Kony Ealy ran a 4.84, benched 225 pounds 22 times and jumped 31 inches. If he...

Concerns About Tamab Hali’s Future With The Chiefs?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, one of the reason why the Chiefs elected to use their No. 23 overall pick on Auburn DE/OLB Dee Ford was because Pro Bowl OLB Tamba Hali weighed in at 284 pounds last Friday. Just for the sake of perspective, that is 20 pounds over his optimal playing weight. Many assumed the Chiefs would use that pick on a receiver like USC’s Marquise Lee...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs selected Auburn defensive end Dee Ford with the No. 23 overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night, landing a potential replacement for Tamba Hali or Justin Houston. With only one selection in the first two rounds, Kansas City was thought to be trying to trade out of its pick. But general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid wound up...

Kansas City Chiefs select Dee Ford in the first round

The Kansas City Chiefs made their first-round selection on Thursday night, taking Dee Ford out of Auburn. In the coming month, there will be plenty of coverage of the newest member of the Chiefs. But in the meantime, here are five things to know about the 3-4 outside linebacker: 1. Ford was a 3-star recruit out of Odenville, Alabama. He signed to play outside linebacker at Auburn...

With the 23rd pick…

(Photo via www.stateofthetexans.com) The Kansas City Chiefs selected Dee Ford, defense end, from Auburn University. Ford will be an excellent fit for Andy Reid and his Chiefs as the defense lacked the athleticism that Ford possesses. It will be interesting to see just how ford fits into Reid’s program, and how long before he will be utilized in a different defensive position.

2014 NFL Draft First Round Grades: Kansas City Chiefs

23rd Overall Pick: Dee Ford, DE/OLB, AuburnI was expecting a wide receiver right here. I'm not quite sure why they spend a first round selection on a pass rusher with Houston and Hali already on the roster. They did need a third rusher to go behind them, but was it really worth a first round pick? On top of all that, Ford was pretty much a consensus second round prospect, though...

Four players the Cardinals could target with the 20th overall pick

We are finally here. Thursday, May 8th 2914.  The first round of the NFL Draft.  Finally we can eradicate all the annoying ‘first round mock’ drafts that all seem to have the Cardinals drafting a quarterback in Derek Carr.  It’s not that the Cardinals don’t need  quarterback that makes the Carr pick annoying, it’s the fact that Carr will not be the best player available...

Dandy dozen: 12 possibilities for the Cardinals at No. 20

A lot can and will happen before the 20th pick in Thursday night's draft rolls around and the Cardinals get to turn in their envelope. But with many directions to turn and no gaping holes that desperately need filling, they're in a fairly enviable position -- one of those teams that can probably point to any number of players still on the board and say that's the guy we want. But...

The interminable wait is almost over. In a little more than 24 hours, the drama will finally end. Will the Falcons, with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft, make the dramatic move to trade up and select South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney or will they stand pat and draft an offensive lineman? What do the Cardinals draft prospects look like?

The Cardinals have been linked to numerous players with the No. 20 pick in Thursday's first round of the NFL Draft. It really could go any way according to the multitude of mock drafts out there. It is worth noting that none of the major mocks had the Bears drafting guard Kyle Long a year ago at No. 20. That's right, none. But that aside, here are highlight videos of the seven prospects...

When discussing edge rushers, need is strong word for Cardinals

TEMPE, Ariz. -- It's funny how some narratives take on a life all their own, becoming accepted truth. Take the Cardinals' dire need for an edge rusher. Is it really that dire? The Cardinals could certainly use an eventual replacement for defensive tackle Darnell Dockett. Dockett turns 33 this month and his cap hit balloons to $9.8 million in 2015 (the last season of his deal) with...

New England Patriots on Paper - 2014 Big Board: Loaded Patriots can afford to be creative

New England Patriots' Big BoardWhen considering the needs of the New England Patriots in the 2014 draft, logic dictates that the current roster first be examined and then faulted to determine what the draft offers that your current personnel does not - which is common sense......but do the Patriots really need all that much?  Free agency already addressed a big need and a return...

A look at who Saints are taking with 27th pick in various mock drafts

Figuring out who will still be available at 27 is as big of a guessing game as the lottery, but that doesn’t stop everyone and their grandparents from posting a mock NFL draft on the internet. I am guilty of it too. Because the Saints pick so deep in the first round there isn’t much of a consensus specifically because availability changes so much with each mock. I did want to...
