The Magic Altman
Dana Altman has done wonders for the Oregon basketball program. Heading to the Ducks in 2010 after a successful run at Creighton, Altman has improved his squad year-in and year-out, with this year being by far the greatest season in recent program history.
Taking the Ducks to the NIT in his second year, Altman and his group of top recruits found themselves near the...
Over the last couple of years there seems to be a big undercurrent of talk about firing Tubby Smith. Generally I just dismissed this as mostly lunatic ramblings, given that he had taken over a pretty moribund program and restored it to respectability with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Sure, there were plenty of frustrations - the Royce White situation, the myriad...
A Veiled Season
Shrouded by the success of the Oregon Ducks’ football team, the University of Oregon men’s basketball team has set sail on their 2012/2013 campaign that should mark a crucial point in the history of the program under Head Coach Dana Altman.
Though the Ducks did lose senior leaders such as Garrett Sim and Devoe Joseph, Oregon returns a bevy of starters to compliment...
On Wednesday, the Celtics notified Kris Joseph that he earned the 15th, and final, roster spot. Joseph is the last man standing from a group of Camp invitees that included Dionte Christmas, Jamar Smith, Rob Kurz and Micah Downs. Christmas became a fan favorite and also was close to Jason Terry, but was waived to make room for Leandro Barbosa's signing.
News surfaced today...

There’s always next year
The Oregon Ducks mens basketball team finished the season with 24 wins and 2nd in the Pac 12, but since they did not have any wins against top 25 teams and they lost to Colorado in the first game in the conference tournament the Ducks missed out on the Big Dance.
Still, Oregon had a good season and they advanced to the NIT quarterfinals.
Here are 5 things...

College basketball regained its grasp on Oregon this year.
Through renewed mediocrity at both of the state’s major universities, and with a large boost from the NCAA Tournament’s decision to host two rounds at the Rose Garden; excitement in this state reached a level it hadn’t been to since… well, 2007 when the Oregon Ducks reached the Elite Eight.
But that season alienated...
Oregon’s Offense Comes Quacking to Seattle
On the Pacific coast, few rivalries are have as much passion as the one between Oregon-Washington. Despite the vast differences in Eugene and Seattle, two elements are identical: The Washington Husky and Oregon Duck fan bases hate each other with a passion.
Whether its football at Husky Stadium or a game of shirts and skins on a blacktop...

With Selection Sunday just a day away, this will be my last bubble watch, although I will still be posting daily bracket projections.
Even at this late stage, there is a ton of uncertainty in terms of the last few at-large spots. In some cases, mid-majors that lost early have been able to sit back and allow the ineptitude of others to give them a better shot.
Just in case this...
Andre Roberson made the go-ahead layup with 10 seconds remaining, lifting Pac-12 newcomer Colorado to a 63-62 victory over Oregon in the league tournament's quarterfinals Thursday night.
Devoe Joseph, an All-Pac-12 first team selection, missed the potential winning 3-pointer from the left sideline at the buzzer for the Ducks.

Just in case this isn’t enough to tide you over until the 2012 NCAA Tournament, you can always...

“Ucks” Must Find Their “D”
In just a few short months head coach Dana Altman has transformed his team into an NCAA-bubble team in his second year at the helm.
The Oregon Ducks (22-8, 13-5 in the Pac-12) finished the conference season in third-place earning a first round bye in the Pac-12 tournament this week at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Jorge Gutierrez is joined on the All-Pac-12 First Team by teammate Allen Crabbe, Arizona's Kyle Fogg and Solomon Hill, Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten of Washington, Devoe Joseph of Oregon, Andre Roberson of Colorado and Jared Cunningham of Oregon State.
After another exciting and eventful weekend of college hoops, I can finally trim some teams off of the bubble. While it may be disheartening to fans of those teams, take solace in the fact that it makes may job a lot easier.
Even so, there is still the potential for plenty of movement during the last week of the season as teams jockey for position and look to make a positive final...

Utah Utes (6-13) vs Oregon Ducks (21-8) Handicapping / Spread
Saturday will mark the conclusion to a forgettable first hoops season in the PAC 12 for Utah. The only saving grace was that the USC Trojans were worse than they were saving them from finishing in the basement.

There are quite a few changes compared to the bracket I put out earlier this week, as four new teams are now in the field. A number of other teams are still in contention, and conference tournaments will wind up being a make-or-break proposition for quite a few squads.
Below are my latest bracket projections through Thursday’s games. As usual, underneath the bracket I will give...
Locks (3): Duke, North Carolina, Florida State.
Should be in (1): Virginia.
Bubble (2): Miami, N.C. State.
Virginia (21-8 overall, 8-7 conference, RPI 49, SOS 83): Well, now this is getting interesting. The Cavaliers lost at home to Florida State, and a deeper look at the resume makes things look a little shaky. No wins over the top-3 teams in the ACC. One significant non...
