DOMINIQUE EASLEY NEWS

Former Gator Dominique Easley quells nerves, doubts with pro day showing

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- If Dominique Easley was nervous, he didn't show it. If there were any lingering doubts in the back of his mind about the soundness of his surgically repaired right knee, they never bubbled to the surface. Easley stepped onto the field Thursday morning at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and went to work. The only clue of Easley's recent past was the bulky brace...

5 Most Overrated Prospects In The 2014 Draft

This is why I love the NFL Draft. The difference between a stud and a dud could be the difference betwen the first overall pick and the fifth overall selection.Players show off their skills,  run insane 40-times and squat and lift outrageous amounts of weight. But those feats are done without the help of pads, helmets and live offenses and defenses. And as the the Drfat gets closer...

Defense still needs more

Like the offense, the Gator defense was in search of some answers. When Dominique Easley went down in 2013 the defense was not the same, mentoring a good line has been paramount. Still, it was the secondary that was hit hard by graduation and the NFL draft. The Gators have as little experience in the backfield as ever. They made some quality movement on defense, but the fall will have to see more.

Brandon Thomas tears ACL

Some sad news hit today, as ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that Clemson Tigers product Brandon Thomas tore his ACL last week while training, and it’s crushing to think that a draft prospect suffered an injury this severe just one month before the first day of the draft. It’s one thing to suffer an ACL tear during the season like Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger did or to deal...

Muschamp sees leaders among linebackers

The injuries compounded the issue a year ago, but one of the things that was missing on both sides of the ball for the Florida Gators was leadership. On defense, Florida lost two starting linebackers from 2012 after both were drafted to the NFL. Their leader up front was hurt early in the year when Dominique Easley went down. Now they have some returning players that need to step up.

Latest update on 4-star Holley

The Florida Gators saw it first hand with the loss of a dominant defensive tackle during the season. The defense took a step backward when Dominique Easley fell to injury. Replacing Easley with talent isn't easy, but there's a big one that may be close to making up his mind and he grew up close to where Easley was from. Brooklyn, New York massive lineman Thomas Holley has...

Thomas Holley Spurns Syracuse: How Have New York’s Other “Big Fish” Fared?

Thomas Holley is reportedly down to Penn State and Florida. Just another New York State big recruit who will leave the region and play for a bigger program. He had been courted by SU for years, and visited campus in the summer. Will Syracuse ever land the big fish? It’s fair to wonder. The Lincoln High defensive lineman stands 6-foot-4, 285-pounds and is rated as the No. 3 DT...

Run defense set for a challenge

Since defensive tackle Dominique Easley was lost for the season, the Florida run defense has taken a nosedive. The Gators allowed 55.3 yards per game on the ground in their first three games this season with Easley healthy, but since his injury in practice, Florida is giving up 136.8 yards per game on the ground. And it doesn't get any easier this weekend in Columbia, S.C.

Florida Gators football: Defense missing Easley

(Photo Credit: AP Photo/Alan Diaz) As the heart and soul of the defense, the presence of senior defensive tackle Dominique Easley was rather important to the success of the Florida Gators football team. So important, that a piece of Easley still travels with the team for every game: his infamous Chucky doll. Since he tore the ACL in his right knee in practice September 24, ending...

Gators limp into bye week seeking health, solutions

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --If he coached in the NFL, this is the sort of week Gators coach Will Muschamp would scan the waiver wire for help. Maybe call up a recent retiree and see if he had anything left. Talk to the general manager about a potential trade. This isn't the NFL. So on Sunday morning, the day after the Gators lost back-to-back games for the first time since 2011, Muschamp...

Easley a part of the win

Florida sophomore BUCK Dante Fowler brought a not so friendly reminder of the Gators fallen defender Dominique Easley on the trip to Kentucky Saturday for the matchup with the Wildcats. Easley’s trademark doll Chuckie from the horror movie “Child’s Play” was part of the escort on the road and to the stadium and in the hands of Fowler. As for the game itself, they wanted to play for Easley.
