The Road Diary: Eagles at Colts

Horsie Not Fat EnoughFor the past six years, I've taken the Shooter Mom to a road game for our beloved Eagles. Why a road game? Frankly, they are more fun. It's more relaxed from our part, since we're not as life and death on whether the club gets a win; you just don't expect it so much on road games, so a win is more of a bonus than a relief. The players tend to...

Debunking the “missing piece” and “X-Factor” theories as Eagles take on Jags…

The hype is understandable. Eagles fans are desperate for a safety who can line his guys up and provide leadership in the secondary. Malcolm Jenkins (#27) is labeled the “missing piece” in that scenario. And then there are the “X-Factors” whom Dave Spadaro of PE.com has designated as the Birds’ secret weapons: Nolan Carroll—nickel/dime CB, KR…. Brandon Graham— OLB…...

Donnie Jones and Brandon Boykin affected the outcome of games on special teams last year

The Eagles' special teams units last season, on the whole, were a below average group. However, they did have a few standout contributors, most notably punter Donnie Jones and gunner Brandon Boykin. When asked if Jones and Boykin were among the best in the NFL at pinning opponents deep in their own territory, special teams coordinator Dave Fipp shifted praise to the punt team...

Eagles Make Splashes in First Week of Free Agency

The Eagles have made some splashes in Free Agency. Most of the splashes have been for the Special Teams unit and the Defense. They started Tuesday off by re-signing punter Donnie Jones to a three year deal worth $6 million. It was a move much needed. Another much need move was signing a safety. Patrick Chung didn’t work out, so he was released. Eagles signed former New Orleans...

No big splash for Eagles on Day 1 of FA....I guess we're saving our bullets for the Draft...

Nothing wrong with a conservative aproach to spending on free agency... Being a thrifty guy myself, I give props to Howie Roseman for not getting emotionally involved in the Talib and Byrd and Ward sweepstakes. Day 1 of FA Signings saw the Eagles play it close to the vest. Re-upping prime-time punter Donnie Jones to a 3-year deal was probably their most relevant move--...

The trick, of course, is like the merchandise bid on "The Price Is Right"--- get as close to the actual value of the merchandise without going over the retail price. ...

Ranking the Eagles Re-Signings This Offseason

Free Agency starts on Tuesday, March 11th, but teams can already start negotiating with upcoming free agents. Will the Eagles be big spenders? Possibly, but I certainly would be surprised. Last year’s under-the-radar plan of adding guys like Connor Barwin, Bradley Fletcher and Donnie Jones to the mix sure seemed like a better strategy than 2011′s Dream-Team nightmare. That said...

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2014 offseason with ten players heading to free agency.
