All-Aughts Team of the Decade bC: Doug Mirabelli
Dougie's going deep tonight! A popular meme about a day in the life of Doug Mirabelli (there were two such days, I can't find the other one) was passed around back when Mirabelli was a cult figure in Boston.
It might be odd for some to think that Doug Mirabelli was a cult figure for Red Sox fans, but I can assure you... he was.
Mirabelli was acquired as a response to...

Dougie's Goin' Deep Tonight!
"Obviously it was an assassination directly at my character for unprovoked reasons. I've been gone for five months. I mean, to just randomly come after Doug Mirabelli? For what reason? Because you don't like me? I mean, you don't have to like me. Obviously he doesn't like me," - A former Padre speaking about his former GM

Where My Hitters At?
From the Globe via ESPN, a proposed three-way (very, very different from the sort of "three ways" Doug Mirabelli used to propose) between the Sox, Padres and Cubs ain't happening. The deal -- if one can believe it ever truly existed -- would have sent Ellsbury and Buchholz to the Cubs, Andrew Cashner and Josh Vitters to San Diego, Adrian Gonzalez to Boston, and Joe Perry and Ric...

Dougie, We Hardly Knew Ye
Dougie in happier times. This is the thing: doesn't it sort of seem like the Red Sox front office treats Doug Mirabelli like that dude you date occasionally because you're bored or something but that you never bother to introduce to your friends because you know it's not really serious? Like you're co...

All-Aughts Team of the Decade bench UTIL: Eric Hinske
Hinske was acquired by Boston during the fateful year of 2006 to provide much-needed depth at first base, the outfield corners and third base (although he never once appeared in a game at third for Boston).
Hinske was similar to Doug Mirabelli during his time in Boston that he had a low batting average (.229 in Boston) but a fair amount of pop. He also had strong plate discipline...

Two Hundred Grand
We had the 200,000th visitor to The Mighty Quinn Media Machine since I installed SiteMeter back in April, 2006 (about five weeks after I founded this site). It was shortly after 8 PM tonight and it was a person from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, checking out the funny Doug Mirabelli post through Facebook.I thank you all who come here and make writing this site such fun for me.

What? Doug Mirabelli isn't available?
It feels like every catcher in the Red Sox system is hurt. I'm expecting the bullpen catchers to break something soon. So when we saw Victor Martinez hopping around like someone dropped Ben Gay in his cup... we knew the Sox would be in a bit of a bind. So everyone's just kinda scratching their heads for a replacement. First up: Kevin CashWith...

Sock Scandal!
Former Mets broadcaster Gary Thorne now works for the Orioles, and he is stirring up some major shit with the Red Sox. During last night's game, Thorne said, on the air, that backup catcher Doug Mirabelli told him it was paint on Schilling's sock in 2004, not blood. Thorne claimed it was all done f...

Mirabelli Deal In The Works
Break out the chicken parm, because it sounds like Doug Mirabelli may be headed back to don the Boston home whites again in 2008.
Per the Boston Herald's sources, Dougie Fresh and the Sox have come to agreement on terms that would bring Doug back under a one-year contract worth $550,000, w...

Is Theo Epstein an Idiot?
Red Sox blogger Fragile Freddy listed virtually every move Sox GM Theo Epstein has made over the last 24 months and broken them down into 'moves that worked,' 'moves that didn't work,' and 'moves that remain in doubt.' This is a great breakdown of all that's happened in Beantown over the last two years.
It's hard to pile on a guy that helped...

What's the real reason behind the right field changes?
Larry Lucchino yesterday said the Red Sox may move the right field fence in 6 feet to make our bullpens roomier and up to code. Michael Silverman today suggests there might be something else to it, and I'm inclined to agree:
Another question, slightly more cynical, comes to mind. Is there some kind of old or new Yankee Stadium envy, or plain old offensive envy, going on here...

So Bartolo Colon is on his best behaviour, saying all the right things, and acting like a model citizen. He even pitched a very good 1st bullpen session on Monday morning, throwing 42 pitches to Doug Mirabelli under the watchful eye of pitching coach John Farrell who had this to say: “For not b...

So last night Gary Thorne apologized for "misinterpreting" a joke Doug Mirabelli said in the clubhouse. Stone Cold Crazy
While doing some research for my little Where Are They Now Project, I noticed a Dan Shaughnessy article from last Sunday which contained this line:"[Number 28] was worn by lunkheads Steve Crawford, Jeff Stone, and Doug Mirabelli."One of the things Dan has been criticized for is the time he made fun of Jeff Stone for being, supposedly, mildly retarded. I really don't...

According to radio reports mentioned on SoSH, the Red Sox have re-acquired Doug Mirabelli for, possibly, Rudy Seanez and/ or Josh Bard. No official confirmation yet.
