According to the Union-Tribune Moseley elected to have the surgery after doctors told him continuing to play could do more damage to his shoulder.

Padres RHP Moseley hurt while hitting Wed.
San Diego Padres right-hander Dustin Moseley suffered an undisclosed injury while batting in Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.
Moseley popped out in the fifth inning, grabbed his left shoulder and then went to the ground. He was replaced by Cory Luebke to start the sixth.
