The Rangers and A's are underway in Oakland, though you'd never know it by the crowd. Very quiet, like they're at an art gallery instead of a ballpark.
No score in bottom of second. Rangers' Dustin Nippert worked out of a little jam in the bottom of the first.

Should Derek Holland be taken out of the rotation?
September 06, 2009 by
dallasnews.com

I'm surprised we're even asking this question after a stretch in late July and early August where Derek Holland really pitched well and, even when he couldn't go 6 innings, left with his team squarely in it.
But his last 3 starts are a different story. He allowed 6 runs...

Well, this game was pretty much defined in the bottom of the third, when Dustin Nippert couldn't get anyone out. Cleveland scored five runs that frame. That was also all the scoring for the entire game.
Neither team was exactly pounding the ball. Of the six hits Cleveland had...

It's time to win this series.
Junichi Tazawa starts for the Sox in the last game of the three-game series against the Rangers. The Rangers will send out Dustin Nippert to the hill.
It'll be fun to see Tazawa in action again. His first outing was solid, so hopefully he...

We had a hiatus this weekend thanks to scheduling conflicts, but we're back this week. Speaking of Tim Cowlishaw, if you haven't read his column from Monday about himself (in relation to Josh Hamilton), you can do so here. The Rangers open a 3-game set with the Indians tonight...
How much longer should the Rangers stick with Derek Holland?
July 25, 2009 by
dallasnews.com

Despite his prized prospect status, rookie left-hander Derek Holland has been a dud as a starter. He has just one win since joining the rotation, and his ERA as a reliever is nearly a run better. If the Rangers were 10 games out in the West, there would be nothing wrong with sticking...
Rangers top wild card after Kinsler rips Red Sox
Ian Kinsler homered and drove in two runs, Dustin Nippert pitched six solid innings and the Texas Rangers passed Boston in the AL wild-card race, beating the Red Sox 4-3 Sunday.

Kevin Millwood started the game, and you felt good about it, based on his performance this season. Felt like we'd be able to take the game and the series heading back home. Kevin went out there, and threw two innings, allowing a single hit. Struck out two. Then that was it. He...

Leading into this series, Texas trailed Boston by one game in the loss column, and, since this figured to be clearly the most difficult series remaining on the Rangers' schedule, my hope was that Texas could manage to lose no more than one game on the Red Sox. That game was lost...

Texas pitchers have made three errors on pickoff attempts in this series, all coming on throws to first base and all resulting in two-base errors. Scott Feldman did it in the sixth inning Sunday, joining Dustin Nippert and Tommy Hunter on the list. They need to work on the fundamental move.

Huge win for the Rangers. They really needed that to avoid the sweep and stay 3 games back of the Angels.

Some thoughts
• Fantastic debut by Neftali Feliz, two perfect innings with four strikeouts and not one piece of solid contact. His first outing was a sign that he could in fact make an impact in this pen down the stretch, if the team can just hang in there.
• Another poor offensive...
