According to Joel Sherman of the NY Post, the Yankees have traded a pair of minor leaguers to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Eric Hinske and $400,000.
The two minor leaguers were Eric Fryer, who was a left fielder at single-A Tampa, and Casey Erickson, who was a right handed reliever with...

Bucs are interested in him too. If we're interested in signing someone that can actually be useful as a utility/fourth outfielder in 2009, Hinske scores much higher on the scale than Luis Gonzalez. I have taken this occasion to actually make a new poll, which you can find in the left sidebar.

As expected, Ramiro Peña has been optioned to AAA Scranton to make room for Eric Hinske. This is not a bad thing. Peña is still a prospect and will clearly benefit--especially in terms of his bat--from playing every day. What has attracted my eye, however, is Pete Abraham's update...

Nice pickup, in my opinion. It?s a one year deal, and the base salary should be around $1.5M, [according to DK].
Hinske will fill a bench role, and he can play 1B, 3B, LF and RF. He hit 20 HR?s last year with Tampa in a similar role, which is pretty impressive.

In the wake of the euphoria over the Yankees World Series victory, the one question that seems to be on everybody's mind is this: Damon or Matsui? Both of them contributed hugely to both the Yankees regular and postseason success. Both also came up huge in the World Series. Both...

New York Yankees utility man Eric Hinske happy to be back in the American League East
NEW YORK -- Eric Hinske sounded every bit like a guy who was happy to returning home. Sure, the 31-year-old utility man has never actually played for the Yankees before (and he isn't a New York native, either). But Hinske...

The Hinske signing becomes officialy today, too. The Pirates know better than to announce news the Friday before the Super Bowl, apparently. DK's reporting the terms at one year/$1.5 million. That's really not much money to provide some bench insurance. And it's not Luis Gonzalez.
Don't expect a decision on New York Yankees starting pitcher for Thursday anytime soon, plus Eric Hinske makes Yankees debut
