Miami blitzes Atlanta
I thought about waiting until the end of the game between the Hawks and Heat before posting. Since, at the end of the third, Miami’s up 88-61, I went against it. The Hawks are resilient, but even this is too much. LeBron has 23, and Dwayne has 21. Hawks announcer Steve Holman thought they were trying to force the baskets so they can pad their stats before they sit down for...

Atlanta Hawks searching for free agent help
The Atlanta Hawks have felt the sting of the injury bug, especially in the frontcourt with both Al Horford and Jason Collins being injured. Despite that, Atlanta has managed to stay afloat and then some, but it’s only a matter of time before their lack of frontcourt depth becomes a problem. Recently signing free agent center Erick Dampier for a 10-day contract is this the big man...

Hawks beat Magic in OT, try out Dampier
Atlanta defeated the Magic 89-87 in OT from Orlando in the first meeting of the two since their playoff series last season. While it was a terrific game, Orlando had every chance to win it, but 3′s by Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson both missed. I really don’t want to discuss this, as I would bring up the resilience that’s characterized this team all season....

Atlanta Hawks at Magic: Game thread
Larry Drew says Erick Dampier will be dressed tonight so look for Dampier to get a shot at checking Dwight Howard. “We need a big body,” Drew said. Hawks coaches went over plays with Dampier last night.
Josh Smith on being left off the All-Star team: “I felt I deserved it for two years in a row. You’ve got to factor in there is a lot of politics involved...

Atlanta Hawks Signed Erick Dampier to 10-Day Contract
The Atlanta Hawks are hoping that the signing of Erick Dampier will provide them with some much-needed support in the paint. From the AJC: “The Hawks no longer will have to make do using forwards at center. The team signed veteran free agent Erick Dampier to a 10-day contract Thursday. He joins Zaza Pachulia as the only healthy centers on the roster after injuries sidelined...

Atlanta Hawks: Erick Dampier signed; Josh Smith snubbed?
Here is my AJC story on the Hawks signing Erick Dampier to a 10-day contract. Here is my other AJC story on Joe Johnson making the All-Star team and Josh Smith being left off.
AJC wise guy weighed in on the Smoove Snub. Now I will take a stab at figuring out if ‘Damp’ can help the Hawks.
Dampier is a big dude. Maybe he’s too big. He was last listed at 265 but, based...

Hawks need Dampier to be presence in middle
ATLANTA With their depth at center whittled down to almost nothing, the Atlanta Hawks ran smack into a three-game losing streak recently.
They dug their way out of that with a 97-87 win over Indiana on Wednesday, but entering Friday's key Southeast Division game on Friday at Orlando and one of the game's best big men in Dwight Howard, the Hawks knew they could not continue...

In Need Of Frontcourt Help, Atlanta Hawks Sign Erick Dampier
The Atlanta Hawks are in need of some frontcourt help and because of that need to fill, they gave free agent center Erick Dampier a 10-day contract to see if he can fill the void that is left in the Hawks lineup.
Dampier has averaged 7.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game over his 14-year NBA career. He ranks seventh on the all-time rebounds list among active players.

Atlanta Hawks: Good fit for Fesenko?
The Hawks plan to sign a center and it almost certainly will be a guy on a 10-day contract rather than a permanent addition. They’ve discussed Kyrylo Fesenko, Erick Dampier and Dan Gadzuric but, as far as I know, they haven’t inquired with those guys yet to gauge their interest in a short-term gig in Atlanta.
I’ve always thought Fesenko, the massive 7-foot Ukranian...

Dampier Awaits Call For Another NBA Turn
Well what would one expect after fifteen winters spent bashing bodies with the biggest and best in the game? Or racing some of humankind’s finest athletes from goal to goal? Not that Erick Dampier enjoys increasing signs of seniority. “A lot of stress caused a lot of those gray hairs!” he chuckles.

POTD 1/6/12: Carl Landry Reverses On Birdman
The Birdman left the door to the baseline open, allowing Carl Landry to slip through and go reverse on his dome…
Honorable mention to Al-Farouq Aminu. Nice, strong finish by him, but a better one by Landry, who extended his right arm and whipped it hard over the shot blocker.
I should probably note that there was an unposted POTD on Wednesday: Brandon Bass on Mehmet Okur ...

Your Morning Dump... Doc finds a zone defense in his bag of tricks
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Mind you, the Celtics have thrived off their help defense system build off a man-to-man backbone during the Big Three era. In fact, the Celtics played zone defense on a mere 1.8 percent of all plays during the...

Erick Dampier Used As An Example In Psychology Text Book (Picture)
It's not surprising to me that NBA players have found their ways into some rather interesting books but I didn't know that a psychology textbook was one until now.The good folks over at Deadspin came across this picture of Erick Dampier in a section of a psychology textbook (aptly named "Psychology") talking about sunk-cost fallacy:(Courtesy of Deadspin)

ASK IRA: Would Heat revisit Arroyo, Dampier?
Q: With all this concern at point guard, do you think we will have a Carlos Arroyo comeback to the Heat? — Miguel.
A: I have to admit, I found the Heat’s treatment of Carlos somewhat confounding over the years. Yes, he does not have the 3-point range of Chalmers, but he hit just about every shot he needed to hit when he was here. And while he’s certainly not a...
