While a lot of attention this offseason has been paid to the Nats solidifying their middle infield and the acquisition of Max Scherzer, very little has focused on an area of the roster that struggled in the 2014 playoffs and has seen a good amount departed talent this winter, the bullpen.
This winter the Nats have said goodbye to:
Rafael Soriano – 64 G, 3.19 ERA, 32 Saves
The Washington Nationals have been busy the past few weeks tying up the loose ends with the Max Scherzer deal. Before this deal happened though, the Nationals were making quieter moves, drafting players to minor league contracts. These players have to potential to be the future of the organization and should not be overlooked even with the Scherzer deal.
Here are a few...
A lot of professional baseball players – especially pitchers – play the guitar. Evan Meek is among the best of them. The 31-year-old right-handed reliever takes music nearly as seriously as he does pitching. He’s been playing for two decades and composes his own songs. Meek, who has a 3.63 ERA over 179 career outings, […]
BALTIMORE (AP) Left-hander Joe Saunders is back in the major leagues, returning to the Baltimore Orioles after pitching with Triple-A Norfolk.
Saunders had a 1.50 ERA in 10 appearances with the Tides. He was signed after going 0-5 with Texas in a stint that ended with a poor showing against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
He said Monday: ''It's funny because I was in the visiting...

It is September and that means callups and roster expansion.
The Baltimore Orioles recalled reliever Evan Meek and starting pitcher Joe Saunders on Monday.
Meek has struggled during his 15 appearances this season posting a 7.47 ERA. He figures to be used simply as a relief pitcher in games that are out of hand.
Saunders will be used in a similar role. Expect the 33-year...
The Baltimore Orioles have sent relief pitcher Evan Meek to Triple-A Norfolk.
Following a doubleheader on Thursday the Orioles are sending Meek down. He began the season with 9 1/3 scoreless innings but has allowed a whopping nine runs over his last 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Orioles will call up another pitcher.

Once upon a time, this day was off to a promising start for the Pirates. Charlie Morton cruised through three innings and the Pirates had runners more or less perpetually on base in the early innings against Bud Norris despite only scoring one run.
Then the rain came, Morton lost his edge, and when the Orioles put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth it felt like the...
TORONTO, On. — Three-run home runs by Brett Lawrie and Melky Cabrera in the eighth inning led the Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.
Lawrie blasted a 1-1 pitch from O’s reliever Evan Meek into deep centre field scoring Juan Francisco and Colby Rasmus, breaking a 3-3 deadlock to give the Blue Jays a 6-3 late lead. Cabrera’s home run came later...
The game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday was postponed due to inclement weather. Normally a postponement isn't at top of a team's want list. In the case of the Orioles where the flu has been sweeping through their clubhouse, an extra day off isn't a bad thing particularly when star outfielder Adam Jones and reliever Evan Meek were send home...
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Tuesday's night game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles has been postponed by rain.
A steady downpour and low temperatures were predicted for much of the night.
No makeup date was immediately announced. Baltimore won the opener of the three-game set 7-1 on Monday, and the series was scheduled to conclude Wednesday afternoon.
Tampa Bay announced Tuesday...
The Orioles have been dominant in Grapefruit League play so far this spring; with the most trivial concern is wondering if the team could be peaking too early. At this point the Orioles appear more prepared and focused than the other teams they have faced. It is wonderful to see the team bear fruit so early in the process, but the playoffs are a long...
