28 is the new 30: Targeting Age 27 NFL athletes and changing the way we forecast fantasy’s cliff year

If you’ve followed the pro game, or the virtual one, you know the conversation in NFL circles – running backs hit a cliff at age 30. Its is a known sentiment and a widely held belief, and generally speaking it holds true. There have been examples of backs proving otherwise (Fred Jackson is made of some strange indestructible fiber it seems and Frank Gore staved off ineptitude...

Preseason Fashion Police: Beards, Shorts and Sammy Watkins Cosplay

What better time than the preseason than to test out one’s game day uniform. The first time someone decided to cover a Darth Vader outfit with spikes in Black Hole of Oakland do you think it had 87 different spikes you see now? No, they probably only started with a couple dozen rhinestones and Hello Kitty sticker on their helmet. With that in mind, let’s see how everyone’s...

Once the season starts, we’ll be fine.” In two preseason games, the 49ers have scored just three points, losing...

Frank Gore's Last Hurrah

SBNation’s San Francisco 49ers blog, Niners Nation, published an article outlining the impending decline of running back Frank Gore, with two big reasons being his age and the existence of younger teammates waiting to replace him. That was in 2011. A poll at the end of the story asked when Gore would lose his starting job, with “some time during the 2012 season”...

12 Team PPR FN Writers Mock Draft Recap From The Ninth Slot

When I learned I was sitting with the ninth pick in the draft and I already knew the top tier of running  backs would be gone by the time I picked.  As this draft was for a PPR league, I thought about taking a top tier receiver like Dez Bryant or Brandon Marshall but I knew I could get one with my next pick since it was early in the second round.  My strategy was then to get an...

Running Back Handcuffs

Cheat Sheet Creator – Draft Analyzer – Draft Assistant – Auction Calculator I’m not much for drafting a handcuff of my starting running backs just for the hell of it. Investing in a running back’s backup is sometimes a good idea and sometimes not. Not all backups are created equally. Offense, opportunity and ability become big components in deciding if handcuffing...

49ers rookie running back Carlos Hyde proves to be quick on his feet, in the classroom

The ultimate compliment for Carlos Hyde this summer would be that he runs like Frank Gore. The second-best endorsement? Hyde already received it this week when two of the 49ers’ most important offensive coaches said the rookie running back learns like Gore, whose ability to pick up plays and process schemes has been called savant-like by 49ers coaches beginning with Mike Nolan...

Gore To Get 50 Less Carries Compared To 2013?

According to ESPN's John Clayton, 49ers running back Frank Gore could see 50 fewer carries in 2014 than he did last year.Fantasy Spin:Earlier this month, ESPN NFC West blogger Bill Williamson projected Gore to get 220 carries, 56 fewer than the 276 he had last season. Gore no longer contributes in the passing game so he'll be no more than a low-end RB2 with just 220 carries.
