Mariners have shown they are taking the long route
Great to be back in Seattle and looking forward to spring training after a nice couple of weeks off in South Africa and France. As usual, the Mariners timed all of their big moves and non-moves for the moment I left, giving colleague Larry Stone plenty to do. I'll schedule next year's vacation earlier, so that the team doesn't leave you hanging in suspense all winter...

Albert Pujols: An Angel In Cooperstown?
The Angels have a long and storied history, one filled with joy, tears, pain, and blood. Many great players have come and gone under the Big A, Tim Salmon, Garret Anderson, and Nolan Ryan to name a few, yet in the history of the Angels franchise not a single player has gone to Cooperstown wearing a Halo on his head. How could a franchise that has been honored by many historical players...

On this date in Giants history — Oct. 27
(All entries courtesy nationalpastime.com)
2006: After leading the Padres to two consecutive NL West titles, Bruce Bochy, with a year left on his contract, leaves San Diego to become the manager of the division rival San Francisco Giants. The 51-year-old skipper, who compiled a 951-975 (.494) during his 12 seasons in the Friars dugout, signs a three-year deal worth approximately...

how ‘E’ kendrick, or is it How? e kendrick?
I learned about the Howard Kendrick fiasco a few days ago, but I needed some time to think about it. A lot of times I just jump the gun, writing on emotion, and frustrations. This time, however, I waited and contemplated what I would write.
The story goes that Kendrick rented a house last season during the Angels season. One young Angels, and Kendrick fan, wanted the 2nd baseman...

The All-Time Angels Baseball Team
In the midst of this baseball season, it occurred to me that I’ve never seen an article or a list of the all-time Angels team anywhere online – and I’ve written for Bleacher Report.com, a prominent sports article site, for three years.
Being that’s the case, I thought I’d remedy that by listing my choices for an all-time Angel team here. I hope all...

Indians Hitting Coach Compares Michael Brantley to…Garret Anderson?
I was listening to the post-game radio show Monday night after the second game of the doubleheader in Minnesota. All the players were exhausted after have played three games and travelled 1,200 miles in 36 hours, so Tom Hamilton & Co. talked to Cleveland Indians hitting coach Bruce Fields.
It was an interesting interview—Fields talked about the progress Tribe hitters have made...

Pull out the hanky, Conger wears Mister Anderson’s #
I am sure you were all wondering (not!) where is the Angels blog? We all had a few days off so maintenance could be done on the site. I think a lot of our posters were scared that this site was gone, but I knew better (not!). The people that run this are outstanding, so I really did know that we would be back real soon. And we are!!
I’ll touch on a few things that stood out...

A Fourth Of July Worth Remembering: Angels 5, Tigers 1
The Angels bid adieu happily if perhaps a bit wistfully to interleague play. They took four of six from crosstown rivals the Dodgers, though despite my misgivings and the apparent at-large misgivings of Dodger fans overall, Chavez Ravine matches still outdrew those at Angels Stadium, 127,852 to 126,021. The difference is quite...

Dodgers G-wynn, denying Angels a sweep
The Dodgers have won the World Series! That’s how they acted after Tony Gwynn’s single gave the Dodgers a walk off 3-2 win in the finale of the 3 game series at Chavez Ravine. I love enthusiasm, but I have always been told that you don’t ever want to embarrass the opponent. Isn’t mobbing each other after a meaningless June game doing just that? I remember...

Goodbye Garret Anderson; Goodbye, "GAARP"
Didn't want to end this week without some words on Garret Anderson, who retired from baseball on Tuesday. Anderson was with the Dodgers for much of 2010, and in typical Joe Torre style favoring veterans, appeared in 80 games for the Dodgers, which was at least 70 games too many.
Oh, what a horrible year. Anderson's batting average sunk beneath the Mendoza line on April...

Long Time Angels' Player Retires
After 17 Major League seasons, Garret Anderson has called it a career.
Anderson spent a year with the Atlanta Braves and another year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but will be well remembered for his time spent with the California/ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Ending his career, Anderson hit .293, knocked out 287 career home runs, and drove in 1365 RBIs.
Anderson's...

We Thought Garret Anderson Retired Already
After 17 seasons in the game, Garret Anderson is hanging up his glove. Funny, we totally thought he retired already.
The 38-year-old left fielder broke into the majors back in 1994 and ended up compiling more than 2,500 hits, 287 home runs, and a career batting average of .293. He also enjoyed a World Series title with the Los Angeles Angels in 2002 and three All-Star selections...

Angels Great Garret Anderson Retires: Apologizes To Halo Fans For Being Misunderstood
Garret Anderson has announced his retirement. GA will easily go down as one of the top Angels players of all time and arguably the most under appreciated. Despite retiring as the Halos franchise leader in games played, hits, doubles, total bases, runs, extra-base hits and RBIs Anderson was often chastised by fans for being too smooth. The game came so easily...

Happy Trails To You Mr. Anderson
True Halo fans should seem a bit more tearful today after a collected and very thankful Garret Anderson announced Tuesday morning that he was hanging up his cleats for good. Number 16 officially bid farewell to a game he very covertly dominated for seventeen years, and in a few of his last words to his fans, eluded that he had felt at times, a bit misunderstood as a player...

Ballplayer to a 'T': Angels great Garret Anderson retires
Garret Anderson announced his retirement Tuesday. If you didn't already know, it probably was because he didn't want a big deal made of it.Anderson was kind of quiet. OK, really quiet. I can't remember anything he has ever said. But he did a few things on the baseball field: • He had a pretty swing; Not as pretty or powerful as that of Ken
Griffey, but it was pleasant...

Garret Anderson Retires
The only surprise is he admitted it For a long time, he was a bugbear to me in that he represented many of false things about the Angels' offensive strategery, in particular, RISP2 hitting as a skill; but his career .239/.330/.570 line with two strikes wasn't terrible. I hope he returns to the Angels organization in some capacity.
