TOP 11 POINT GUARDS OF ALL TIME:
Well at least in my lifetime.
This list is based off of what I have actually seen. Not what I have been told from uncles or past coaches or from the old heads in the barbershop. If I didn't see it, then I can't vouch for it. There is no denying the greatness of Oscar Robinson. And dude sure as hell doesn't need my random blog to validate...

Gary Payton's Fear: Not Having His Jersey Retired In Seattle
It’s hard not to mention the Seattle Supersonics and not think of Gary Payton.
Whether he was talking trash our scowling at opponents on his way to earning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 1996, or throwing half court lob dunks to Shawn Kemp on the break, there’s no doubt “The Glove” and his No. 20 Sonics jersey would one day hang from the rafters in Key Arena...

In the Triple-Post Offense..."Point guards are like trophy wives."
This is an excerpt from an article I read in 2004. It talks about how Los Angeles Lakers free agents Gary Payton and Karl Malone have adjusted to the triple-post offense (triangle offense).
"After spending his entire career with the ball in his hands, once Karl Malone was hurt and the Lakers stopped running, GP was reduced to being the fourth option on a team that didn...

Video: Do you remember 'Gary Payton Wireless'?
Do you remember "Gary Payton Wireless"? The correct answer should be NO. I did a little Google research on "Gary Payton Wireless," and this is all I came up with. It is briefly mentioned during this Sports Illustrated article from 2002. There was a store that opened in a mall the same day as ...

DGWH Book Club
It's been a while since my last book review, Cane Mutiny, which followed the first review of the most excellent Boys Will Be Boys. Recently, LA Lakers head coach Phil Jackson has publicly stated that he is unsure of coming back next season to coach the Lakers. Jackson, 63, cites concerns of his own health as well as the team's success this year as major factors regarding...

The Glove on BDSSP Podcast
We got an email from our friend BMan from Best Damn with a link to their podcast. This week's guest was Gary Payton, who is called him at around 4:14 mark. As BMan puts it, "He leads an interesting life."

Can the Glove Fit?
Gary Payton has said he thinks he can help the Celtics. The Detroit game showed the Celtics weakness when Rondo is out of the game against teams that can press on defense. Payton may just be what the Celtics need.

ASK IRA: Are Joel, Mario the current Heat versions of Zo and Payton?
Q: There should not be any surprise about Spoelstra finishing with Chalmers and Anthony after starting with Ilgauskas and Arroyo. It was the same in ‘06 with Gary Payton and Alonzo Mourning finishing the fourth quarters for their defense in place of Shaq and J-Will. Spoelstra’s just using the same Riley formula. — Moshe.
A: Good point, with the Heat certainly looking...

Flurry of NBA trades somehow results in Gary Payton playing for the Wizards
WASHINGTON—Lost amongst the frantic onslaught of deals leading up to today’s NBA trade deadline was the news that retired superstar Gary Payton is now for some inexplicable reason a member of the Washington Wizards. While nobody quite knows when it happened or which team even had the right to trade him, the fact remains that the nine-time All Star who hasn’t played...

Team-less in Seattle: Which NBA squad to adopt this season
There are only two things to cure a Basketball Jones in Seattle this winter. I could stand out in the cold, in front of a boarded up KeyArena, wearing a Gary Payton throwback jersey and wax nostalgically about the 1996 playoff run to nobody in particular. Or I could adopt another city's team to follow throughout the season.
Option No. 2 has a lower risk of hypothermia and...

The Latest Greatest That Made Us Elated: Washington Wizards 109, Cleveland Cavaliers 101
(AP Photo/Alex Brandon)
These Wizards/Cavaliers games are events that put me a couple of steps ahead of where I was before the day began. Gary Payton: “Kobe is the Best in the NBA”
One-time Laker and NBA champion Gary Payton joined the T.Ocho Show to sound off on Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest and whether or not the Miami Heat can dethrone the Lakers.
(Even though we all know that’s not happening!)

Kind of a rough day for the city of Seattle
We've never really considered ourselves "Seattleites" despite spending the past six years in this cold, damp metropolis. But after a day like the city had yesterday, you sorta have to feel for them.Within a couple hours of each other, the opening arguments were made in the Seattle vs. Sonics trial (the team is like totally moving, but might be forced to play two lame...

Things That Make You Wonder. . .
- I wonder where Gary Payton found his jump shot. He hasn't had one in about five years. He certainly didn't have one last year. I wish he could have found the fountain of youth or his miracle chiropractor one year earlier. - I wonder if referring to Kasey Keller as "the best goalkeeper in the world"...

Diggin’ up the archives: Gary Payton rapping
Rap music and the NBA go together like OJ Simpson and Cutco Cutlery knives. Sometimes you just don?t want to believe it?s true, but you can?t stray away from the thought.
Most of the time, hoops and rap mixed together is entertaining, unless you?re Percy Romeo Miller. But in Gary Payton?s case, it?s very entertaining, mostly [...]
