Rate the local MLB announcers – AL West

I really get the vibe that the American League West is a division that doesn’t exactly inspire much discussion in either way about their broadcast crews, but we’ll see today. Give each broadcast crew a rating, and if you have strong opinions in either direction, let us know in the comments. We’ll use your feedback in the final rankings of the broadcast teams. #AstrosMovies becomes a Twitter blockbuster

If Houston Astros fans can find humor in their sad team's plight, anyone can. That's exactly what happened after a trending Twitter account — started as a private joke among friends — exploded Thursday night after these long suffering Astros die-hards got blockbuster returns with their own hashtag called: #AstrosMovies. Piggy-backing on a Twitter exercise started by...

Daily Friar 1.14.13

Some news is popping up today now that is Monday. Hey I guess even MLB front offices take the weekends off during their offseason. There are a bunch of great articles today, including three from the “where are they now” category. Also I generally don’t like putting multiple articles from the same website up, but today I am making an exception to that rule as I have two from...

Three losses in Chicago halt Diamondbacks' momentum

Will the real Arizona Diamondbacks please stand up? The defending NL West champion D-backs seemed to gain some much-needed momentum by winning three of four games against the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers entering the All-Star break, but any positive vibes seemed to dissipate when they opened the second half by being swept by the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Arizona...

Frustration mounting for D-backs after sweep

CHICAGO -- Diamondbacks infielder Geoff Blum expressed after Saturday's loss that, despite back-to-back losses to the Cubs to open the second half of the season, no one was "freaking out." But after getting swept out of Chicago with a 3-1 loss Sunday, it was abundantly clear that the D-backs are getting frustrated. In the third inning, right fielder Justin Upton who...

D-backs' bats silenced again; no panic yet

CHICAGO -- Friday's game was not the kind the Diamondbacks wanted to open the second half of the season, and Saturday's game made for the kind of series they did not want. In starting pitcher Joe Saunders' return from the disabled list against the Cubs on Saturday, the D-backs again scored just one run, losing 4-1 to drop the three-game series to one of baseball'...

D-backs adjust to sudden turn of events

PHOENIX -- At the start of the week, the Diamondbacks were a healthy team with just three losses and one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball. Chief rival San Francisco was facing the loss of their closer, Brian Wilson, for the season. Life was good. They've seen in a few short days just how quickly things can change. D-backs bench seasoned with experience

MESA, Ariz. -- It's not unusual for a major league baseball team to make calculated moves in building a bench. It is, however, unusual that the end result has an average age of just under 35. With Henry Blanco (40), John McDonald (37), Lyle Overbay (35), Geoff Blum (38) and Willie Bloomquist (34) -- who will likely start early in the season as Stephen Drew rehabs a broken ankle...
