Bye, Bye, To Hank “I Tanked” Blalock
Hank Blalock was the player who was supposed to take the slack when Pat Burrell was designated for assignment but was designated yesterday with a very poor performance, since being brought up from Durham. Blalock did not see the field much, hitting .254 with a home run and seven RBIs in 63 at-bats for the Rays.” Hopefully there will be a team that wants me to play for them...

BREAKING….Blalock in St Pete today?
DRaysBay.com is reporting (though they cannot confirm yet) that Hank Blalock will most likely be added to the Rays 25 man roster today. I have not seen any corresponding reports anywhere else as of yet, but this would be a most welcome move.
Readers of this blog know of my dislike of seeing Pat Burrell in the lineup for the Rays. In his last 10 games, Burrell has 6 hits in 36 AB...

Dual Thoughts: Hank Blalock and Gaby Sanchez
(MJ: Both John and I wanted to run pieces on the Hank Blalock business, and I decided there’s no reason we couldn’t both publish our thoughts. What follows is the first of an occasional set of articles where both John and I share our opinions. Most of the time, it’s agreement, so not much contention [...]

Could Hank Blalock Help The Houston Astros?
Houston Hotbed has decided to delay any ‘potentially good-fit trades’ type of posts for now, seeing as it is April and there is barely any likelihood that any significant deals would occur at this point in time. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Astros are still lacking that extra left-handed bat to use in the line-up against right-handed pitching.
So just...

Blalock accepts minor league assignment
Hank Blalock needed a second round of teams passing on him to realize there simply wasn’t a market for a guy who hit .234/.377/.459 last season.
Blalock did smack 25 home runs last season but with him being limited to DH and occasional time at first base there simply isn’t a bunch of teams lining up for his services. After he failed to get any other substantial offers...

Blalock signs with Rays despite more PT with Marlins
This is a bit odd. Not surprising, mind you, but odd.
On Sunday, the Rays were working on some final details with Hank Blalock on a complicated deal that will enable him to opt out if he’s not in the majors. The sides are still expected to come to an agreement.

Los Angeles Angels Rumor Round Up : Hank Blalock
General Manager Tony Reagins is looking to acquire a bat to improve the team's offense. Trading Mike Napoli for an Adam Dunn might not make as much sense as making a simpler move. Sign the recently designated for assignment Hank Blalock.

Hank Blalock has found a new team and according to a pair of tweets from SI.com's Jon Heyman that team is the the Tampa Bay Rays who have agreed to pay the former Rangers third baseman a base salary of $925,000 with performance bonuses that that could total $350,000.

Tampa Bay Rays designate Hank Blalock for assignment
The Tampa Tribune says that the Tampa Bay Rays have designated Hank Blalock for assignment to make room for Gabe Kapler. Kapler will return from the disabled list on Wednesday.
Blalock, 29, was hitting .254/.319/.349 with 1 home run in 26 games with the Rays this season. Blalock signed a Minor League deal with the Rays in March, but did not make the big league club out of Spring...

Another Horrible Call Against The Rays
The Rays lost a game I believe could have ended differently, if it weren’t for another horrible call by the home plate umpire. The Rays were losing 0-3 by the sixth inning and was in the midst of their usual big inning to come back when Hank Blalock came in as a pinch hitter and hit a single to start off the inning. John Jaso was the next to follow with a double in the gap...

Non Roster Invitee: Hank Blalock – Rays
Hank Blalock joined Tampa Bay on a minor league deal but almost instantly many expected him to share time at DH with Pat Burrell. While Willy Abar may be as good of a bet as Blalock is with the stick there seems to be no shortage of people who think perhaps a change of scenery may once again breath life into the 29 year old’s bat.
Had Blalock not hit a home run off Eric Gagne...

Opening day 30 hours away
The beer is chilling. The hot dogs are being delivered. The bunting around the ballpark is being unfurled. That means it’s almost the greatest day of the year. Everyone is in first place and hopes run high.
Hopes are running high in the Bay area this April. The roster that manager Joe Maddon has crafted for your 2010 Tampa Bay Rays is the most complete in team history. The 25 man...

Los Angeles Angels interested in Hank Blalock and Adam Dunn?
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times says the Los Angeles Angels are interested in corner infielder Hank Blalock. Blalock was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Notes On Hank Blalock And What It Means For Willy Aybar
Last night it was announced that Hank Blalock agreed to a one-year deal with the Rays for $925K with up to $350K in bonuses based on plate appearances. There is an opt-out clause in the contract that would allow Blalock to become a free agent if he is not on the 25-man roster on April 1.

Blalock beaten out for bench spot on Rays
Reid Brignac has beaten out Hank Blalock for the final infield spot on the Tampa Bay Rays. Blalock had signed with the Rays in hopes of splitting time with Pat Burrell at DH and making the occasional start in place of Carlos Pena at first.
Blalock got in 40 at-bats this spring and after a hot start he finished with a .175 average, 1 homer and 3 RBI.

It’s time for expanded replay in MLB NOW
The Tampa Bay Rays were the recipient of yet another really bad call by an umpire this season tonight. Now, at the end of the game the ruling at the time did not make a difference in the outcome, but this simply illustrates the problem with the game of baseball as it stands currently.
