JOT: Minor League Recap 5-14-13
Iowa Cubs 1 @ Reno Aces 11
Barret Loux is just another terrible I-Cubs player. Last night he threw 3.1 innings, gave up 9 hits and 7 runs. He walked 3 and struckout 2. On the season, he’s made 6 starts and thrown 23 innings. If you guessed 37 hits allowed, you were right. He’s given up 21 runs. He’s walked 16 and struckout 22. If he wasn’t allowing nearly 2 baserunners per...

Here are the I-Cubs pitcher today who have no chance of ever being good: Chris Rusin, Casey Coleman, Hisanori Takahashi, Rafael Dolis and Blake Parker

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 5-8-13
This will be brief.
Iowa Cubs 8 @ Colorado Springs Sky Sox 6
Barret Loux had a typical Barret Loux start. He threw 4 innings, allowed 8 hits and 4 runs while walking 3 and striking out 4. Esmailin Caridad picked up the win and threw 2 hitless innings. He allowed a walk and struck a batter out. Hisanori Takahashi gave up 3 hits and 2 runs 1.2 innings. Blake Parker walked and struck...
JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 5-1-13
Round Rock Express 1 @ Iowa Cubs 0
Chris Rusin had a very good start. He went 7 innings, allowed 6 hits and a run. He walked none and struckout 5. Hisanori Takahashi struck a batter out and allowed a hit in the 8th. Zach Putnam struckout 2 and allowed a hit in the 9th.
Logan Watkins was 3-3 with another walk. He’s struckout a little too much this year and it should come down....
JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 4-28-13
Iowa Cubs 10 @ Omaha Storm Chasers 6
In 6 innings today, Brooks Raley struck a batter out, walked 3 and gave up 2 home runs. He only gave up 4 runs, which is kind of impressive when you look at what I wrote first. It’s not at all impressive though.
Hisanori Takahashi struck a batter out in one inning and Zach Putnam gave up a hit and had 1 strikeout in 1 inning. Rafael Dolis gave...
JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 4-21-13
Iowa Cubs 0 @ Memphis Redbirds 1
It’s not easy writing about the Iowa Cubs. They are easily the least interesting team in the Cubs organization. Hell, the team in Chicago is even more interesting. We get paid the big bucks to do it so here we go.
It was Hide Your Children Day in Memphis as Brent Lillibridge made his 2nd straight start. He was 1-4. The Cubs had only 6 hits and no...
Chicago Cubs Outright Hisanori Takahashi To Iowa
MLB News: The Chicago Cubs sent pitcher Hisanori Takahashi packing as they outrighted him to Triple-A Iowa. Having been designated for assignment last Tuesday, he went unclaimed through the waiver process. He had a 6.00 earned run average in three innings this year.
Fantasy Ramifications: Takahashi, even if he is brought to the majors later on this year, has no fantasy baseball value...
Chicago Cubs Designate Hisanori Takahashi For Assignment
MLB News: The Chicago Cubs designated pitcher Hisanori Takahashi for assignment Tuesday. The 38-year-old enjoyed a solid 2010 and 2011 season, his first two in the major leagues, but was horrendous last season. He gave up two earned runs in only three innings this year.
Fantasy Ramifications: Takahashi should not be owned in any fantasy baseball format.
The post Chicago Cubs Designate...
Our Long Nightmare is Finally Over (Lillibridge DFA)
Good news, everyone! Hisanori Takahashi and Brent Lillibridge have been designated for assignment.
Hisanori Takahashi was last relevant in 2011, when he was a relatively successful LOOGY/7th/8th inning guy. The wheels fell off in 2012 in 51 appareances between the Pirates and Angels. There's a great chance he makes it through waivers.
Brent Lillibridge was ONLY relevant in 2011...
Braves 5, Cubs 1
Tim Hudson pitched six-plus strong innings and added an RBI and Ramiro Pena hit a two-run single to help the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 on Sunday.
The three-game sweep ended a 5-1 homestand for Atlanta, which got a solo homer from Dan Uggla in the eighth off Hisanori Takahashi.
Chicago ended a six-game road trip with four losses as it heads to Wrigley Field for the...
Longshot Idea For the Cubs
The news has come in that pitcher Chris Young (the pitcher, not the outfielder) is about to opt out of his contract with the Washington Nationals. The Cubs have pretty much rounded out their active roster, with a bench role going to (most likely) Steve Clevenger while the last bullpen spot might go to Hisanori Takahashi. However, should the Cubs decide that they don’t need...
Cub Trek III: The Search For Utility
The Cubs are going to toss some guys on the disabled list to open the season and have trimmed the spring roster to 35. As of now there are a couple spots up for grabs: bench guy and bullpen guy. My best guess for bullpen guy is that it goes to lefty Hisanori Takahashi, who would be a complement to James Russell as the southpaw contingent of the pitching staff. As for bench...
Cubs 8, Royals 3
Alfonso Soriano connected for one of three first-inning homer against Bruce Chen and a Chicago Cubs split squad beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3 Saturday.
David DeJesus led off the game with a homer to right field. Then after Brent Lillibridge doubled and Anthony Rizzo struck out, Soriano hit his second of spring training. The 20-year-old Javier Baez followed with another long ball...
Berkman homers for Rangers in win over Cubs
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Hisanori Takahashi knows there are no guarantees for a player who walks into major league camp with a minor league contract. That's why he's happy to fill any role for the Chicago Cubs.
Bidding for a spot in the bullpen, Takahashi started Wednesday and pitched three shaky innings in a 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.
The 37-year-old left-hander gave...
Rangers 3, Cubs 2
Lance Berkman hit his first home run of spring training, helping the Texas Rangers beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Wednesday.
Mitch Moreland had a run-scoring single and Ian Kinsler drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly for the Rangers, who have won three of four.
Texas starter Robbie Ross, a candidate for the fifth spot in the rotation, allowed one run on four hits with a walk...
Transaction Analysis: Royals Carry a Mig Stick by R.J. Anderson
Miguel Tejada, Matt Diaz, and Hisanori Takahashi get minor-league deals; Mike Gonzalez earns a spot in the Brewers bullpen.
News and notes
Some news and notes as we head in to the new year…
MLB Network did a nice feature on Roberto Clemente, commemorating the 40-year anniversary of his death.
Beyond the Box Score posted an extensive analysis on the Bucs’ “strategy” this year against the running game. Very interesting stuff.

Cubs sign Hisanori Takahashi
The Chicago Cubs have signed lefty-reliever Hisanori Takahashi to a minor-league deal which includes an invite to Spring Training, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Takahashi finished up last season with the Pirates after they claimed him off waivers from the Angels.
Overall last season, Takahashi went 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA with a 9.3 K/9, the best k-rate of his career.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2012 Season Recap: Relief Pitchers
The Pirates bullpen continued to be a strength for Pittsburgh again during the 2012 season. The 2011 bullpen finished with a 3.76 ERA, and were even better this year. The ‘pen finished with a combined 3.36 ERA — which finished ranked seventh in the National League (11th in the Majors). In the first half of the season, the relievers sported an impressive 2.59 mark. That number...
More of the same
The Pirates were soundly defeated by the awful Mets on Monday night, and they sunk to three games under .500 as a result. Nine games remain this season, so every loss severely damages their chances of reaching 81 or 82 wins.
Kyle McPherson pitched well early on, but Ike Davis took him deep in the fourth with a man on for a two-run shot. Kyle ran into some more trouble in the fifth...
Mashed in Milwaukee
The Brewers jumped all over a wounded Jeff Karstens in the first inning and didn’t look back on Friday night, cruising to a 9-3 win.
Karstens had pitched seven beautiful innings against the Brewers at home last Saturday, but eventually had to come out of THAT game with groin discomfort. He insisted he’d be fine afterwards, but had his bullpen session in between starts cut short...

The Story: The Angels are hoping Albert Pujols can return to the lineup on Tuesday.
The Monkey Says: Still not a guarantee, which is unfortunate because the lineup...
Takahashi Activated; Qualls Placed on Disabled List
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Pirates activated Hisanori Takahashi on Sunday afternoon and placed Chad Qualls on the 15-day disabled list retro to Saturday, August 25 with irritation of his left big toe.
Takahashi was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Friday and reported to Pittsburgh last night after the game. He’s posted a 4.93 ERA over 42 appearances this...
A lot of roster moves and the Brewers
The Pirates were pretty busy for a Friday afternoon in August today; they sent Daniel McCutchen back down to Triple-A and brought Jordy Mercer back from paternity leave (this brings the roster back to 13 position players and 12 pitchers, which makes sense given that the Pirates were both off yesterday and will be off again next Thursday), they sent Yamaico Navarro down to Triple...
