Do Denver Broncos need to add depth at TE by drafting one?

Football teams and their makeups ebb and flow like the ocean, it seems. Last season, the Denver Broncos came in with two very qualified tight ends and a few more younger guys to add depth, but that’s not how it all ended. Joel Dreessen was going to be the starter, but then injured his knee, and Jacob Tamme was going to be the next man up until Julius Thomas made heads turn in...

Broncos bumble their way to 43-8 loss to Seahawks

The Denver Broncos were outmanned from the start. Seattle's famed 12th Man crossed up the highest-scoring team in history when they caused the Broncos to fall behind just 12 seconds into the Super Bowl on Sunday night. Peyton Manning stepped up toward the line just as center Manny Ramirez snapped the ball. It flew past his incredulous quarterback and into the end zone, where...

Super Bowl XLVIII Third Team: The Officials

This Sunday at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands (as in every NFL game) there will be a third team in the field: the officials. But unlike the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, this team is an all-star crew, with the top seven officials from each position in 2013 (referee, umpire, head linesman, line judge, field judge, side judge and back judge) being selected to the...

5 things Super Bowl teams might try to thwart cold

NFL players rely on all sorts of methods for dealing with the type of weather the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are expected to face in the Super Bowl. Even if there's no snow or rain on Sunday, which is what the National Weather Service predicts, the high temperature is supposed to be 38 degrees. With the opening kickoff set for about 6:30 p.m., it could be in the 20s...

Patriots-Broncos AFC Championship Live Blog

Bill Belichick: the Shia LeBeouf of master motivators.Despite what the media machine may claim, this game is about more than the meeting of Jacob Tamme and Matthew Mulligan. Hard to believe, but it’s true. For the sake of fairness to the others involved, let’s try to look past those legendary backup tight ends whose legacy will be shaped in part by what transpires today.Thanks...

Broncos feel late losses make them better

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By ARNIE STAPLETON AP Pro Football Writer A year ago, Denver roared into the playoffs riding an 11-game winning streak and promptly lost for the first time in 98 days. So much for momentum. This year, the Broncos are again 13-3 and the AFC's top seed, two home wins away from the Super Bowl. Only, they're far from the overconfident, sauntering unit...

Broncos are far from on Easy Street despite No. 1 seed in AFC

Looking back, difficult as it may be, the Broncos doomed themselves by dominating the Baltimore Ravens four weeks before when they played them again. It was mid-December of last season, and the Broncos had the Ravens whipped 31-3 midway through the third quarter before coasting to a 34-17 win. When the teams met again in a second-round AFC playoff game Jan. 12, the Broncos tried...

TE Tamme turns into Manning's security blanket

Jacob Tamme was the OTHER free agent who chose Denver as his destination last year after making a name for himself in Indianapolis. His familiarity with Peyton Manning paid off with a starting role for the Broncos in 2012, and he ranked third on the club in catches (52) and yards receiving (555) to go along with two TDs. That all changed this season with the emergence of Julius...

Denver Broncos had fun today at practice swapping jerseys

Today when the Broncos took the practice field #18 looked big like he had been lifting weights. Well cone to find out, it wasn’t Peyton Manning but Jacob Tamme instead. “I was looking for 84 but he wasn’t out there,” Tamme laughed when asked who he was looking to throw to. “It was fun. Some […]
