From Left Field: Mets Have Knack For Making No-Name Pitchers Look Great
So Steve Carlton picked up the win last night for the Philadelphia Phillies…
Actually, it was rookie Vance Worley, throwing a Carlton-like game, who picked up the win.
During their history, the Mets always seem to have a knack for losing to no-name pitchers.
Granted, Worley is on fire right now, but there’s no reason why this rookie, who was only supposed to tread water in the...

WRAL: Glennon Ready to Prove Himself (Video)
Jason Jennings spoke with Mike Glennon today. Not a thorough interview by any means, but one of Glennon’s comments perhaps sheds a little more light on TOB’s process of choosing Glennon and releasing Wilson (WRAL.com): “I thought redshirting was going to be great for me, but then Russell (Wilson) had the great career that he [...]

No joke: Hammel first Rockies pitcher to go yard since 2004
The joke circulated in the clubhouse. It became a topic of conversation in batting practice. "When," catcher Chris Iannetta said, "is a pitcher going to hit a home run?" The seven-year pitch, er, itch is over. Jason Hammel homered in the third inning, the first Rockies pitcher to pull it off since Jason Jennings in 2004.

A closer look at Buchholtz...
It seems like everyone has taken a look at Chris Capuano, which I completely understand since we've been so desperate for starting pitching and it was quite a surprise that we landed him. As I've said since the news broke, I like the signing he's a lefty who didn't cost much and could potentially have success in the rotation. The other pitcher who signed, isn'...

Incremental Improvement, Tampa Bay Rays
This is a continuing series on how various MLB teams might make a small change to improve themselves for 2011. The idea is laid out in the first of these posts.
The Tampa Bay Rays finished with the best record in the American League. The Rays are an interesting team, in that looking at individual position players, a number of good ones are on the list. If you look at a summary...

Why Rookie of the Year Voting Is Getting More Difficult
by Jeff FletcherFiled under: MLB AwardsRemember when the hardest part of picking the Rookie of the Year was finding one good one? You may have blanked it from your memory, but it wasn't long ago that we had guys like Angel Berroa (2003, .789 OPS), Bobby Crosby (2004, .744) and Jason Jennings (2002, 4.52 ERA, albeit in Colorado) winning the Rookie of the Year.
If you really want...

An interview with Sean Nolin
Sean Nolin was a 6th round pick of the Blue Jays in this years draft out of San Jacinto Junior College in Texas. Here is what Baseball America said about him:At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Sean Nolin looks like a lefthanded version of Jason Jennings. Nolin's fastball will sit at 86-89 mph in some games and 88-92 in others, and he backs it up with a solid changeup and fringy curveball...

Calling Up Top Prospects
Pedro Alvarez, Desmond Jennings and Carlos Santana have more in common than their status as top prospects. These guys are as cheap as they’ll ever be and their teams can control their future salaries by calling them up strategically.
Just ask the Rays. Evan Longoria fell two days short of a full year of service time, which delayed his free agency by a year and GM Andrew Friedman...

Non Roster Invitee: Gregorio Petit – A’s
I have to admit I hadn’t looked at the Oakland A’s list of non roster invitees but judging from their usual front office antics I figured there would be at-least 2-3 veterans looking to hang on that could actually contribute to the club for a full season.
Boy was I wrong. Aside from Lenny DiNardo, Jason Jennings and the Triple-A monster known as Dallas McPherson the roster...
