Where are they now? Brian Downing
By Brian Waller - AngelsWin.com Feature Writer
If I were to tell you that the Angels once traded for a scrawny catcher who in his first four seasons in Major League Baseball averaged only 6 HR’s and 34 RBI’s while hitting only .251, you would think the Halos re-acquired Jeff Mathis wouldn’t you? As good of a guess as that would have been, you would have been wrong. The Angel...

Jeff Mathis - A Woman's Dilemma
By now, most of you already know that Jeffrey Stephen Mathis is no longer an Anaheim Angel. Yes, you can scream up and down and be thankfully that DiPoto finally made that move that most of you wanted into a reality. The truth is, we have a bigger ordeal on our hands. No, it's not Mills +8 ERA. It's the women. THE WOMEN ARE HURTING YOU GUYS!!

Jeff Mathis In His Own Words
By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
When it comes to Jeff Mathis, there are two schools of thought: There are the Major League scouts, coaches, and players who believe that he is one of the better defensive catchers in the game, and there are the fans who believe that his offensive struggles do not justify whatever defense he may bring to the team. No other player on the...

Will Mathis be on the Mets radar...
Long time Angel catcher Jeff Mathis is in jeopardy of losing his job now that the Angels have traded for Chris Iannetta. Mathis is considered a standout defensive catcher and pitcher's love throwing to him, but he's one of the worst offensive players in the game.Mathis has always been an above-average defensive catcher but has been one of baseball's weakest hitters with...

Where the Jays Stand – Starting Rotation
Remember back in the fall when I was doing a weekly positional breakdown of the Jays as baseball traipsed through its eventful off-season and into the spring?
Well, I went across to diamond to every fielding position off the mound – and little has changed since then. At catcher, former Angel Jeff Mathis will take over the role as J.P. Arencibia’s back-up that was vacated by Tampa...

Jays Swap Mills for Mathis
Today’s trade of Brad Mills to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for back-up catcher Jeff Mathis comes down to one simple question: does Mathis hold greater value than any of the position’s available free agents?
There is little question that Mathis is a solid addition and immediately becomes one of the most reliable and defensively consistent back-ups in the league. The arbitration...

The Angels made a huge move this morning, acquiring Houston Astros manager Brad Mills. No, not really, but they did pick up Brad Mills from the Blue Jays.

Jeff Mathis Becomes A Blue Jay – And That’s (Kinda) Okay
Firstly, I want to apologize for the unintentional rhyme to the headline there.
I honestly didn’t think there’d be a time where I’d be okay with the Blue Jays trading anybody for Jeff Mathis – he who was ranked dead last in WAR among his catching brethren in the MLB – but you know what? I’m okay with the move that sent Brad Mills over to the Angels...

The Mathis Line
By Steve Haston - AngelsWin.com ContributorWhen you say that Jeff Mathis’ career batting average is below the Mendoza line, you’re slapping Mario Mendoza in the face. Jeff Mathis for MVP?
Mike Scioscia is smarter than me, and he's smarter than you are too. In baseball terms, that is. He?s consistently done more with less than any manager I can ever remember hearing about. And to cap it all off, he won a World Series while utilizing guys named Lou Pote and Shawn Wooten.
