The Royals Need A Rival
Just over 30 years ago the Kansas City Royals were embroiled in one of the best rivalries in baseball with the hated Yankees. It had everything a great rivalry needs; success on both sides, regular and postseason match ups, incredible stories, fights, and most importantly a general disdain for the other team. The Yankees got the better of the Royals during the rivalry, but you could...

Los Angeles Angels Are The New Philadelphia Eagles Of The MLB
As seen with the Philadelphia Eagles, having the label as a “dream team” is not always as good as it may seem. With the Angels recent acquisitions of Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson, they are working their way towards that label. They already have a strong foundation of players and an above average manager in Mike Scioscia. Adding arguably the best hitter in the game and a solid...

AL Cy Young in the bag for Tigers' Verlander
If you had to point to one game that separated Justin Verlander from the rest of the American League Cy Young contenders, look no further than July 31.
That day, Verlander squared off against Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver, younger brother of former Tigers' first-round draft pick Jeff Weaver.
Weaver came into the game with a better ERA than Verlander, and the two were considered...

World Series Prediction: St Louis Cardinals
Aside from receiving a premature birthday wish from the Hooters email club - (Hey Girl) - I am extremely excited for the 107th World Series featuring the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. The Cardinals are my local flavor from another life several years ago. I happened to be present for their Game 5 win over the Detroit Tigers in 2006 that secured a party in downtown St...

OUCH!
Now I know what its like to be a Yankee fan. High payroll, high expectations, everyone rooting for you to fail. It doesn’t seem right.
Everything feels different now. In 2007 we made a historic comeback to capture our first division in years and it seems everyone was behind us. In 2008 the feeling was the same as we ran through the playoffs in route to the ultimate prize. We weren’t...

This One Didn't Hurt So Bad
There is of course some regret in not seeing my Yankees advance, but in reality, I'm not overly upset about it.This wasn't 2001, where Joe Torre refused to play the infield back. This wasn't 2003, where Torre put Jeff Weaver in relief and left Rivera to rot in the 'pen for a save that never came. This wasn't 2004, where Torre refused to bunt on Schilling because...

The day the games stopped and everything changed
As summers go, 2001 wasnt going well.
There's small consolation in the fact that Tiger fans had become numb to this recurring campaign of: Were building something here; were going to get good.
They werent and they didnt for quite a while.
That season, names dotting the roster included Tony Clark and Wendell Magee and Bobby Higginson and Roger Cedeno and Steve Sparks and Jeff...

New York Yankees Turn Back the Clock
Who remembers the good ole days? The days when the New York Yankees had very poor pitching for a team that expected to win the World Series every year, yet still managed to flirt with 100 wins? The mid-2000′s. The days when the New York Yankees were trotting out the likes of Randy Johnson, Aaron Small, Kevin Brown, Jeff Weaver, Javier Vazquez (the first time), Mike Mussina...

Justin Verlander Is Common Street Trash
The key is flaring your nostrils. You've got to flare your nostrils.Did you actually think that I was going to ignore the AL Central this week? It's no Ted DiBiase but enough people here care to discuss it. First things first, Justin HeresYourSignlander. If you didn't see what happened Sunday afternoon in the epic Foxworthy vs. Jeff Weaver's Bro game, allow me to sum things up...

The Boxscore: Goldilocks Edition
There was a limited schedule last night in MLB, with only nine games. Pitching ruled the day as there were several imposing pitching performances. Details after the jump.
Angels 5, Athletics 0
Jered Weaver and his locks of gold dominated the meager A’s lineup. He threw a shutout while striking out 10 Athletics and only walking one. Last year Weaver led the AL in strikeouts and...

Izturis, Weaver lead Angels by White Sox (AP)
The Los Angeles Angels bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 25 1-3 innings Friday and the Angels held on to beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in the series opener. Fernando Rodney worked out of trouble with two on and one out in the eighth and Jordan Walden worked a perfect ninth to preserve the win for Jeff Weaver, the first in the majors to reach four wins.

Paying respect to Mike Sweeney and his mighty temper (Video)
Mike Sweeney was the type of player who was always regarded as one of the nicest guys; a great clubhouse guy who was always genuine with his teammates. But if anyone tried to double cross him, they quickly learned that the big fella had quite the temper — just ask Jeff Weaver or the entire 2010 Seattle Mariners team.
To honor the once prolific slugger, we decided that it would...

Detroit Tigers Fans Should Be Grateful for Legitimate Opening Day Starter
I’ll admit I have a problem. I’ve got a thing for random former Detroit Tigers.
I suppose when one’s childhood is littered with bad professional baseball one must find alternate means of entertainment. Fortunately, that is largely a thing of the past as the Tigers roster is filled with legitimate major leaguers. Justin Verlander is a bona fide top of the rotation pitcher and...

Dodgers Update: Better Late Than Never
Yikes! Where did the week go? Little League officially started this week, and for those of you who don't know I manage a team. Colletti and company were just as busy apparently. The Dodgers front office locked up a few more players this week, including relievers Geoff Geary, Lance Cormier, and they are now considering bringing back Jeff Weaver. It looks like the Dodgers are getting...

The Dodgers are considering Jeff Weaver, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (Twitter link). GM Ned Colletti signed Weaver to a minor league deal worth $800K plus incentives last February, so the right-hander has experience signing late.
Weaver, 34, posted a 6.09 ERA with 5.3 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 44 1/3 innings for the Dodgers last year. The 11-year veteran induced more fly...

2011 American League West Pitching Preview: Jered Weaver & The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Last season, the Angels lost their normal perch atop the AL West and their annual trip to the postseason; things really don’t look too much better this season. The rest of the AL either caught up or passed the Angels over the last year, and I’m not sure the addition of Vernon Wells is going to be enough to overcome the slide. True, Kendry Morales will hopefully be fully...
