Max Scherzer won his sixth consecutive decision, Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-5 on Monday night. Scherzer (6-0) has not lost in eight starts this season. His season-opening winning streak is the longest by a Tigers pitcher since Jeremy Bonderman won eight straight in 2007.

Tim Brown on: Bonderman, Eckstein, Molina

Here's the latest from Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports: – Right handed pitcher Jeremy Bonderman will likely miss at least the first months of the 2011 season after attracting only Minor League contract offers in the offseason. – Veteran infielder David Eckstein is still a free agent, but he's been working out with his brother Rick, the Nationals hitting coach, and expects...

Forced Out of the Game

Every year seemingly usefull spare parts get left in the bargain bin of free agency and go unsigned before their time (as in not ready for retirement). Usually they're old, injured, or coming off a poor season. This year Kevin Millwood and Jeremy Bonderman are the biggest free agents left on the market that could conceivably help a team. However, let's not forget Troy Glaus...

Johnson B. Goode

The last time I wrote one of these posts—the Indians are sure to sign X before you read this—I was talking about Jeremy Bonderman.  We all know how that worked out: after delving into the minutiae and the splits, the fastball velocity and the comps, the Indians didn’t close the deal, and we were all left holding our respective spreadsheets. Let’s hope this time is different...

Jeremy Bonderman likely to sit out 2011

A player close to free agent pitcher Jeremy Bonderman and ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says “More than likely he's going to sit this year out.”  Crasnick adds that Bonderman apparently does not have the energy for more rehabs or going to camp to fight for a spot. Bonderman was recently attracting interest from the Cleveland Indians.  MLB.com's Jordan Bastian said...

Taking A Year Off During His Prime

It’s not often that a 28-year-old pitcher with a 4.11 career xFIP goes untouched as a free agent. Yet that’s what Jeremy Bonderman experienced this winter. Some teams apparently showed interest, but not to the level that Bonderman apparently deemed acceptable. Even as spring training has begun and some teams have realized needs in the rotation, we haven’t seen Bonderman...

Nick Cafardo on the Cardinals, rev share, Adrian Gonzalez and Bengie Molina

Here's the latest from Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe: – Cafardo wonders what's in store for the St. Louis Cardinals. Could they sign free agents Kevin Millwood or Jeremy Bonderman, or make a trade for Barry Zito, Scott Kazmir or Joe Blanton? How will their final standings affect Albert Pujols‘ decision to stay or leave. – The Red Sox contributed $86...

We like to reach out to our readers and offer opportunities to submit guest articles and previews because we always enjoy reader input and contribution.  Today guest writer David gives us his take on the Detroit Tigers. Not many teams can cut payroll substantially and improve, but the Tigers have done so this offseason.  Jeremy Bonderman, Dontrelle Willis, and Nate Robertson all...

MLB's offseason awards

With Spring Training officially open, we can just about close the book on the 2010-2011 off-season. Sure, there are still guys like Kevin Millwood, Nick Johnson, and Jeremy Bonderman on the market, but most free agents have found homes and the trading season has just about passed. So, before we turn our attention forward to the thrill of weigh-ins and stretching, let’s take...

Still Little Interest In Jeremy Bonderman

It looks like Jeremy Bonderman’s prospects for a major league deal are close to zero.  Indians beat writer Paul Hoynes tweeted that the Indians are still interested in Bonderman, but only with a minor league deal.  That’s not too surprising considering Bonderman’s last few years but I thought he might be able to pull off [...]

Remaining Free Agents Who Can Help

Around this time of year, as Spring Training (finally) approaches, I like to check out the lists of remaining free agents, just to see who’s still kicking around that might be useful to a team.  This year, there’s the usual mix of journeymen, malcontents, and aging players hanging on for one last shot at glory.  There were, however, a few players that stood out as guys...

Bargain Basement

There were some interesting late-Hot Stove signings this past week. Most notably, Vlad Guerrero finally landed in Baltimore, as many had been anticipating. As I discussed last week, I'm not completely sold on this move for the Orioles because I don't think it gets them into playoff picture, but a one-year, $8 Million contract for a 35-year-old coming off a pretty impressive...

MLB Free Agent Rumors: Indians Making Progress With… Kevin Millwood

Larry Dolan is opening the wallet and shopping around, looking to add another starting pitcher to the Indians roster as spring training approaches.  Earlier this week, rumors about a potential Jeremy Bonderman signing hit the press.  Kevin Millwood is the latest name to enter the rumor mill for a potential late addition to the rotation. Millwood was 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA in 31 starts...

Can You Feel It??

With about 10 days (depending on when you read this) until pitchers and catchers report, the trucks are on their way to Goodyear. Reading this yesterday made me even more excited for Spring Training to get started and to find out how some things will play out for the Indians. Will they sign Jeremy Bonderman or Kevin Millwood? How will the Indians starting rotation shake out? Will...

The Indians Rotation and Signing Bonderman

There is no doubt in any Indians fan’s mind that the team has a weak starting rotation. Much focus is put on the offense, but the pitching staff is very thin. It is hard to establish a rotation with the inconsistency of Carmona, Masterson, Talbot, and David Huff. Carmona has improved greatly ever since his trip to the pits of the minors. Masterson was in his first year as a...

Musing Over Jeremy Bonderman and Carl Pavano

By the time you read these words, the Indians may have already signed Jeremy Bonderman—hopefully to a contract that is light on guaranteed cash and heavy on performance-based incentives. When I first heard the Bonderman-scuttlebutt on Tuesday evening (reported by Jordan Bastain, doing a great job filling Anthony Castrovince’s shoes, by the way) I was immediately reminded of Carl...

Farewell Bondo

The Tigers said they weren’t going to re-sign Jeremy Bonderman and it looks like he’s going to sign a minor league deal with the Indians.  Bonderman made his major league debut on April 2, 2003 and while he got shelled (his first of 19 losses that year), it was the beginning of a roller coaster [...]

Report: Indians Closing In on Bonderman

At the Indians Town Hall Meeting last week at Playhouse Square, GM Chris Antonetti told the crowd that they team was still actively pursuing ways to improve the Major League roster. The obvious targets were a Third Baseman and an veteran Starting Pitcher to add depth to the rotation. It appears as though the Tribe has set its sights on the latter.
