2012 Fantasy Baseball: Shortstop Tiers
Your fantasy baseball draft(s) are right around the corner. Here’s my attempt at separating 25 shortstops into six tiers.
Tiers are very subjective and one player could easily be considered just good enough or just bad enough to be in the next higher or lower tier.
Let me know what you think. Also check out my: first basemen tiers and second basemen tiers.
Tier 1: Troy Tulowitzki...

Short Stop Sleepers
We all know that after Tulo and Reyes come off the board the SS position turns into “what ifs” and “what’s the difference”. You can find yourself trying to split hairs between an aging Jimmy Rollins and an injury prone J.J. Hardy. Or maybe you’re buying into the hype of a repeat Asdrubal Cabrera break out or thinking Jeter’s got one more descent year. Well, after...

Fantasy Baseball Off-Season Report: Shortstop
By Adam McGill
The shortstop position is only a year or two away from having the biggest turnover in the history of the position. Many relics are close to hanging it up, including Derek Jeter, Jimmy Rollins, J.J. Hardy, Jhonny Peralta, and Marcus Scutaro. This will seemingly give several young players the spotlight for the most important position in the infield, such as Texas’...

Fantasy Baseball – Breakouts and Pretenders
It’s getting closer to draft day, and that means it’s important to separate last years breakout candidates into legitimate stars and pretenders. Today we’re going to look at 6 players that will be overvalued based on their performances last year. Some of them are still quality players who deserve a spot on your roster – but won’t be worth it based on...

Player Profile #125: J.J. Hardy | SS | BAL
After two down seasons, J.J. Hardy was left for dead after many drafts last year. I’m sure he took offense to that and that is why he had one of his best seasons of his career. His 30 home runs weren’t only a career high, but they were also tied for the lead among shortstops (Troy Tulowitzki) in 2011. Power is the name of Hardy’s game and it seems like he likes hitting in...

J.J. Hardy: It's time for Orioles' young pitchers to 'step up'
Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, who signed a long-term contract with the team during his terrific first season in Baltimore, said he signed a multi-year deal because he sees a lot of promise in the young players on the Orioles' roster.

#35: Will J.J. Hardy hit 30 homers again?
Karl de Vries is a reporter and web producer for The Star-Ledger of Newark, NJ. He’s a lifelong Mets fan and fantasy fanatic who operates RotoDiamond, a fantasy baseball blog. If you’ve never heard of RotoDiamond, I highly suggest adding it to your fantasy repertoire. Due to the high quality of Karl’s work, I’ve asked him to contribute posts to Baseball Professor. It took...

How Do You Market The Baltimore Orioles?
With Spring Training around the corner, and the 2012 starting as the winter season ends, the question is this? How does one market the Baltimore Orioles? We know that the 20th anniversary of Camden Yards is this year and the organization will be having several things going on with that. That being said, it’s a great marketing tool, but at the end of the day – I care about...

2012 Mock Draft #1
Earlier today, I participated in my first mock draft of the new year. Justin Occhionero of SonsOfRoto.com and myself hosted and drafted alongside some other writers and readers.
As an experiment, I decided to “play it blind” meaning I did not have my rankings sheets in front of me. It was an interesting exercise, but I did lose track of position depth at certain points,...

Why 2012 Is An Important Year For The Orioles (Part One)
The Baltimore Orioles are viewed as one of the worst organizations in baseball. They play in the toughest division in baseball, have a weak farm system and lack the necessary talent at the big league level to be competitive. Peter Angelos, one of the most unpopular owners in baseball, seemingly has been hesitant to adjust to the baseball industry of the 21st century. Angelos has...

Andy MacPhail's Christmas Gift to Baltimore
The Orioles have plenty of holes to fill this offseason and seemingly every offseason. But there is one critical position that they do not have to fill. Shortstop. You could make the argument that the rarest commodity in the free agent market this season is a shortstop who can hit and field his position well. (OK, good all-around catchers and starting pitching is probably a rarer...

J.J. Hardy Player Projection No. 110
Key Stats: No shortstop had more home runs than J.J. Hardy's 30 last season. Troy Tulowitzki had as many home runs, but also had 39 more plate appearances. The way Hardy got to 30 was impressive as he was consistent in the months of June, July, and August with 7 or more home runs in each month. He missed most of April, but finished healthy which means last year could have actually...

Conflicting Reports on Braves’ and Orioles’ Trade Discussions
There have been conflicting reports about the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles supposed talks about Adam Jones. Some have said that they discussed JJ Hardy. Others have said the Braves offered Martin Prado and Jair Jurrjens to them. Adam Jones is the only player that the Braves would have interest in from the Orioles.
This morning, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reported...

Winter Meetings Preview: Baltimore Orioles
As we continue down the road with our winter meetings preview we find ourselves stopping at one of the more dysfunctional organizations in baseball. Dan Duquette is now on the job, so there are bound to be changes in Baltimore. The question will be what kind of changes we hope to find.
The Orioles have been in last in the AL East for as long as anyone can remember. 2012 appears to...

The Orioles are once again in a state of flux. After a trainwreck of a GM search they finally have their man in Dan Duquette. Duquette seems to be as fine a choice as any, given the circumstances. Without much

similar to the one that brought JJ Hardy to the Twins two years ago at this time but the
pending signing of Jamey Carroll is a step in the right direction.
Carroll, a
soon-to-be 38-year-old utility infielder, is...

End of the Season Postmortem: The 2011 Baltimore Orioles
After hiring Buck Showalter and ending the 2010 season on a roll, there was some actual excitement around the Orioles coming into 2011. Maybe the string of losing would finally come to an end (even if it was just 81-81)! Nope. The Buck Magic wore off, and it turned out that the Orioles were still the Orioles as they finished in a distant 5th place in the East and couldn't get to...
