Pirates Notebook: Beimel designated for assignment
The Pirates recalled Ross Ohlendorf from Class AAA Indianapolis to start the game Tuesday night, the first time he has pitched in the majors since April 8. They designated Joe Beimel for assignment to make room for Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf started two games this season, but he left his second start in the third inning because of shoulder pain.

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced in a team press release that they have designated left-handed pitcher Joe Beimel for assigment. In 35 games with Pittsburgh this season, Beimel had a 1-1 record with a 5.33 ERA.
The move was done to make room for right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf was recalled from Triple-A today.
