Braves end rough season on a high note with 2-1 victory over Phillies

The only way that this would've been a more fitting end to the 2014 season for the Atlanta Braves was if they were the team getting shut out after getting all of their hits in the first inning. Instead, only the latter part of that first sentence was true: Yes, the Braves only got 3 hits on the day and they all came in the 1st inning, but the 2-run cushion was just enough for...

Freeman Escapes Injury After Collision

Atlanta Braves first Freddie Freeman missed the All-Star game due to a jammed thumb and didn’t start Friday night to give the injury more time to heal.  But with the Braves up 5-4, he went into the game to replace Joey Terdoslavich as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning. So the last thing Freeman probably needed was a collision at first base, right? Not only did Freeman...

Andrelton Simmons was the 1st Atlanta Brave to homer in the 2nd half of the 2013 season.  His 2-run shot in the 3rd inning put the Braves up 2-0. The Braves lead would not last long however.  The White...

Could Braves Terdoslavich Be Trade Bait?

Following Jordan Schafer’s placement on the disalbled list, the Atlanta Braves’ rookie power-hitter, Joey Terdoslavich, was granted his freedom from the confines of AAA on July 4th.    With injuries shortening the depth of the 25-man roster, the Braves found themselves in dire need of a utility man off the bench.  Experience at both corner infield and outfield spots made the...

Three Cuts: Braves' rally falls short in loss to Phils

Friday was the start of an important 10-game stretch for the Philadelphia Phillies. With the fourth-oldest roster in the majors, and a so-so first-half of the season at best, decision-makers have to evaluate the Phillies postseason chances before making any decisions ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. Are they buyers or sellers? With just over week before the All-Star break, this...

Braves place Schafer on 15-day DL, call up Terdoslavich

After fouling a ball off his right ankle in Kansas City, Jordan Schafer has not been able to return to full speed. The Braves are hoping some time on the 15-day disabled list will help the young, resurgent outfielder return to form. The franchise placed the 26-year-old on the DL with a right ankle contusion Thursday afternoon. Schafer received sporadic playing time (two pinch...

Atlanta Braves Minor League Report 6-22 to 6-28

One question that I have been asked a lot since starting the cover the minor leagues for Atlanta Bullpen is, “What’s more important in the minors? Winning or development?”.  To that I have no set answer.  I do believe that development is the #1 point of having minor league teams.  However, each player on the club needs to know what it’s like to win, and how it feels....

Q&A: Joey Terdoslavich, Future Braves Basher

Joey Terdoslavich isn’t worried about his low walk rate or his numbers against left-handed pitchers. The 24-year-old Atlanta Braves prospect expects those issues to work themselves out during the season. The reason? He’s a master craftsman with a baseball bat in his hands. Terdoslavich went into last night’s game hitting .328/.349/.578, with eight home runs, for Triple-A Gwinnett...

Chopcast: Filling out Braves bench, bullpen

Orlando, Fla. There are few problems to find on the Braves roster, at least on paper. As manager Fredi Gonzalez makes his way through spring training with his new-look lineup, formidable rotation and top-of-the-line bullpen, the few remaining position battles have made themselves clear: third base and the final one or two bench spots. That's really it. The Braves look to be...
