CHICAGO (AP) Third baseman Kris Bryant has left the Chicago Cubs' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates because he was feeling ill.
Bryant was replaced by Jonathan Herrera before the start of the fifth inning on Sunday. The Cubs then announced that the rookie star had departed because he was ''under the weather.''
Bryant went 1 for 2 in the series finale. He hit .455 (10 for 22) with...

Either Chicago Cubs utility man, Jonathan Herrera gave his mom the weekend off from dressing him for Mother’s Day or he was out on Water Street in Milwaukee on Friday night. Either way, he trotted out Saturday wearing the wrong uniform.

CINCINNATI (AP) Jonathan Herrera singled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning, and David Ross followed with a bases-loaded double that sent the Chicago Cubs to a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
Anthony Rizzo homered, doubled and started Chicago's winning rally with a single off Burke Badenhop (0-1) as the Reds' bullpen failed again. Herrera singled home...

CHICAGO (AP) Infielder Jonathan Herrera and outfielder Matt Szczur have made the opening-day roster for the Chicago Cubs.
Herrera agreed to a minor league contract with Chicago in December, and then hit .300 in 22 spring games. Szczur, who made his major league debut with Chicago in August, hit .354 with five homers and nine RBIs in spring training.

Baseball is back! I’m so glad that the Cubs opener is on a Sunday so I don’t have to burn a vacation day for my favorite holiday of the year. Today’s lineups:
2B La Stella
We’re finally here, guys. The countdown on the side bar is about to be shut down, probably around when Fallout Boy starts performing at Wrigley Field before the Chicago Cubs host the St. Louis Cardinals in yet another edition of a historic rivalry. This time around, the home team will be a significantly better matchup for the visitors, although of course I can’t guarantee...
It seems that my guesses for the roster over the weeks were pretty close to what’s actually happening now that more guys have been optioned, and the rotation has been announced:
Lester Arrieta Hammel Wood Hendricks. In that order. EJax the long man

There is the bench battle still to be fought, though:
No word on final roster spots...
The Diamondbacks parlayed four walks and three run-scoring singles into a five-run 9th inning, rallying to defeat the Cubs 5-1 in Cactus League "B" game action this morning at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ. Kyle Hendricks got the start for the Cubs and was masterful, tossing five innings of one-hit shutout ball (55 pitches - 37 strikes, 7/5 GO/FO), allowing no walks, while striking out...
We recently talked about storylines for the 2015 Chicago Cubs, and added a bit on the southpaw faction of the bullpen. We only really focused on the 40-man roster though, and as you know, spring training has its fair share of non-roster invitees.
Another arm MT @jonmorosi: #Cubs close to signing reliever Pedro Feliciano to MiLB deal with big-league invite. MLB base salary of...
Baseball America reports the Cubs have signed three more minor league free-agents over the past few days, including veteran MLB catcher Taylor Teagarden, INF Chris Valaika, and RHP Andres Santiago. The trio join RHP Anthony Carter, RHP Fernando Cruz, OF Adron Chambers, and INF Jonathan Herrera, who were signed to minor league contracts earlier. All seven will likely receive an...
A couple of quick hits for everyone...
- The Cubs have indeed hired former Cub and rumored backstabber Dave Martinez as their bench coach (not Davey Lopes if you're following Bruce Levine on twitter). That'll move Brandon Hyde to first base coach and newly hired Doug Dascenzo to outfield/baserunning coordinator.
- The Cubs signed INF Jonathan Herrera to a minor league deal...he last...
As we get ready for open season on MLB free agents on Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox have announced two roster moves.
Here’s the release:

The Boston Red Sox made a couple of moves Monday and created some space on their 40-man roster.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington announced that the team outrighted infielder Jonathan Herrera to Triple-A Pawtucket. In addition, the Seattle Mariners claimed infielder Carlos Rivero off waivers.

The Red Sox continue to get the injury bug this season but this one isn't too big of a deal to say the least.
Jonathan Herrera will not be among the Boston Red Sox’s September call-ups.
Herrera, who was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket at the beginning of July, will miss the remainder of the 2014 season because of surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow.
Jonathan Herrera said that he will undergo season-ending surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow. Hoping to be ready to play winter...
It has been a difficult spring for Oakland A’s catcher Derek Norris. The current leader among American League catchers in All-Star balloting is also the unofficial leader in hits received to the head from opposing batters this season.
Norris’ most recent run-in with an opposing hitter’s backswing came on Sunday afternoon when Jonathan Herrera of the Boston Red Sox caught him...
6:38 p.m.: Mike Carp, who was sidelined with a broken right foot, was activated from the disabled list before Monday’s game. Jonathan Herrera was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Carp might not see too much action right away, however. The White Sox are sending out three left-handed starters in the series. Monday’s starter, Scott Carroll, is the only right-hander scheduled to pitch...
BOSTON — Mike Carp is in. Jonathan Herrera is out.
The Red Sox activated Carp from the 15-day disabled list before Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park. Herrera was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket in what manager John Farrell described as a difficult decision.
“He’s done a lot of good things. He fits the role to a tee — the utility role. It was a difficult...

The Boston Red Sox earned their sixth walkoff win of 2014 in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader against the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles.
Shortstop Jonathan Herrera, who pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth inning for Jackie Bradley Jr., hit a single to right-center field off of Orioles reliever T.J. McFarland that scored Jonny Gomes from second base.
The 3-2 victory snapped...
6:42 p.m.: Stephen Drew will be out of the starting lineup Wednesday as the Red Sox face a left-hander in Travis Wood. Jonathan Herrera will play shortstop and bat ninth in Drew’s absence.
Mookie Betts, who was called up before Saturday’s game in New York, will make his fourth consecutive start. He’ll play center field for the second time, as Brock Holt and Jonny Gomes will...
Your browser does not support iframes. Want to see something you have never seen before and will likely never see again? Boston Red Sox slugger Mike Napoli stole home plate during a win over the Oakland A’s on Sunday afternoon. A’s starter Tommy Malone caught Red Sox shortstop Jonathan Herrera leaning in the third inning […]
For anyone who simply glanced over Sunday’s box score, your eyes did not deceive you. Mike Napoli indeed stole home.
Napoli’s theft wasn’t a conventional steal, as the Red Sox slugger raced home from third base after Jonathan Herrera nearly got picked off first base by Oakland Athletics starter Tommy Milone in the third inning of Boston’s 7-6, 10-inning win. But it still...
