Annual Report Card: Jonathan Blum

Jonathon Blum blasted onto the scene in the 2010-2011 season, but showed signs of regression in his sophomore campaign. Still, expectations for the young American defensemen were high going into the 2012-2013 season. Roman Josi was touted to replace Suter on the top pairing, but could Blum fill Josi’s role on the second defensemen pairing?

Annual Report Card: Roman Josi
Roman Josi is congratulated after netting his first against the Stars. (AP-Mark Humphrey)
The 2011-12 season for Roman Josi was very promising. While plenty of fans were expecting plenty more from Jonathon Blum and Ryan Ellis as their development progressed, Josi was a second round pick that had trouble staying healthy in his time in Milwaukee. He was brought up to take the spot...
2012-13 Season Report Card: Defense
John Russell/Getty Images
One positive entering the offseason was the strong defense of the Nashville Predators, according to General Manager David Poile. However, I will to disagree. Injuries to Hal Gill and inconsistency from Ryan Ellis and Jon Blum put the Predators behind the eight ball this season on defense.
Let’s look at the stats.

Who's Hot, Who's Not?: April 17
During a franchise record tying seven game losing streak, it is hard to find one player on the Nashville Predators' roster who has been "hot" as of late. However, there are plenty of players who are "cold".
Nothing has gone right as of late for the Predators. After losing Monday to the Vancouver Canucks,...

Blum’s Re-Emergence Aids Nashville’s Defensive Prowess
For over a year, Jonathon Blum labored in the AHL.
The highly regarded young defenseman started the season with Nashville, but his game was stagnant. Blum’s potential was simply not showing up.
Thus, instead of letting him languish and struggle to fit in at the NHL-level, Nashville sent Blum to their AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.
“Last year was a big wake-up call for me,” Blum...

Barry Trotz on Jonathon Blum: "He has stepped in and been very poised with a lot of jump in his game."
Bartley reassigned to Milwaukee
The Nashville Predators reassigned defenseman Victor Bartley to their AHL farm team Milwaukee Admirals. Victor Bartley was out in Friday's training camp session with an elbow injury. Later that day, the defenseman was named on the Predators' roster. His NHL stint isn't lasting long as it only took two days to send him back down.

Another surprise was that the team kept eight defensemen, including 24 year old Victor Bartley, who has never played in an...
Weekend Round-Up: Ads sign 3 and Rinne wins first game in KHL
Nashville Predators' goaltender Pekka Rinne played his first game for Dinamo Minsk against Atlantin the Kontinental Hockey League Sunday morning in Minsk, Belarus. Rinne led his team to a 3-2 victory by stopping 24 of 26 shots on net. Rinne's first period was very shaky in allowing two goals that he usually would stop, but it seemed that he was just trying to feel out the...

Nashville Re-Signs Up-and-Coming Bourque
The Nashville Predators followed up Thursday's signings of Jonathon Blum and Colton Sissons by re-signing 21 year-old forward Gabriel Bourque. Bourque had statistically the best postseason performance by a rookie for the Predators last season. The deal is two years worth $1.55 million over the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. He will play out the remainder of his entry-level...
Jon Blum shows maturity by signing one-year, two-way contract extension…
During an emergency call-up in January of 2011, rookie defenseman Jon Blum became a surprise staple on the Nashville Predators blueline. He posted eight points during the stretch run to the playoffs and then two more points in the playoffs. In the fall of 2011, however, he underwhelmed in his 33 games, prompting a reassignment to the Milwaukee Admirals. After spending the rest of the...

Richard Cloutier: Hemsky to Nashville: Theory 147
Plenty of Hemsky to Nashville talk happening. The most common theory suggests the return for the Oilers will be Jonathon Blum and a 1st round pick in 2012.
I suggested Ryan Ellis for Hemsky the other day, and was laughed out the building. Perhaps fittingly. Thing is, if I'm Steve Tambellini, I'm going to ask for more than Blum and a 1st. Why? In part because the market...
