Game Report: Marines vs. Buffaloes at QVC Whatever
I gotta admit, I didn't even know what the hell QVC was until I just looked it up.Going to The Stadium Formerly Known As Chiba Marine isn't all that much fun for me anymore. I have a lot of memories there, of course, from all the time I spent there during Bobby Valentine's time as manager, and so going there now feels strange, unless I'm sitting in the Fighters cheering...

Domino’s Pizza Runs Unfiltered Customer Comments on Times Square Billboard
In an effort that may fall somewhere between brave and foolhardy, Domino’s is running an electronic ticker in Times Square displaying in real-time what consumers really think of the brand.
The campaign, which runs from Monday until August 23 will include customer comments — good, bad or neutral — on a 4,630 square-foot billboard. The comments, which are filtered for...

I Bought a Jose Castillo Jersey Back in the Day
First things first, I would like to introduce myself in the only appropriate way possible on this blog---by listing my bobblehead collection (Ryan Howard, Wes Unseld, Jack Wilson, Sean Burnett and Navy Goat). While Brad may not have brought me on for my mediocre bobblehead collection, I am a fan of the Black and Gold (obviously), so enough about me lets get to them:Pirates -Hello...

The final day in Bradenton: Words only update
I still have lots of pictures and other things to share from my time in Florida but today (meaning yesterday, as in Wednesday) was pretty hectic. I'm back in North Carolina now and I won't have time to start putting stuff together until later tomorrow (meaning today, as in Thursday) night after I get home from work. Until then, I wanted to jot down some quick thoughts about...

Is this heaven?
I woke up this morning hardly believing that last night happened. It really, truly happened. The Giants won the World Series for the first time in 56 years, effectively ending the San Francisco drought. The heartbreak of three previous attempts at the title was erased in one swing of the bat by Edgar Renteria. It was extinguished by one slider from Brian Wilson. The torture...

Countdown to Game Time
Anyone who’s excited for the World Series to begin raise your hand. Now keep your hand up if this excitement is accompanied by a familiar feeling of both dread and hopefulness that has come to define the way you feel about this team. Now leave your hand up until the first pitch tonight. Your arm might get tired, but it’ll give you something to do until the game...

Castillo Unhappy With Mets
Mets second baseman Jose Castillo is unhappy with his relegation to the bench in New York and believes that he will be elsewhere in 2011, writes Dan Martin of the New York Post."I can't be here anymore," the second baseman said prior to last
night's game against the Phillies at Citi Field. "I know I'm
not going to be here next year."While GM...

Power outage cause for Marlins’ offensive ineptitude?
Remember the 2008 season? We had just traded Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis and the fans were already feeling bad for themselves coming off of a 71-91 season. The Marlins were looking bleak on the offensive side of the ball, losing their best hitter and potentially replacing him with a crew of journeymen including Jorge Cantu and Jose Castillo.
Well, it seemed like it turned...

Jose Castillo, Edwin Valero's Manager, Speaks About Boxer's 'Tragic' Death
Filed under: WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, Boxing Gossip, Boxing Rumors, HBO, Showtime, FanHouse Exclusive, IBO
In the ring, WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero was the perfect weapon: a hard-punching, embodiment of ferocity who was 27-0, with 27 knockouts.
Out of the ring, the 28-year-old Valero was "a monster," according to one report, his drunken, violent behavior leading...

Too Lazy For A Game Report: Baystars vs. Dragons - A Typical Night in Yokohama
Went down to Yokohama on Tuesday evening, April 6th, to take in the Baystars-Dragons game with Ken and Westbay. It would have been a lovely night if I hadn't gotten a call from my work supervisor 30 minutes before the game started which basically set off a terrible cascade all week of instability, and I was almost ready to quit by Thursday evening. Everything's fine now...

Game Report: Fighters @ Baystars -- No Points, But New Songs
Thursday the 11th was my first Fighters game of the year, as I trekked down to Yokohama Stadium to see them take on the Yokohama Baystars in a preseason game. I hadn't been to Yokohama Stadium since LAST March's preseason, nor did I actually see the Baystars in a single official season game last year. (I did watch the Shonan Sea Rex, their minor-league affiliate, but that...

High, Buy Low and Other Unlikely Strategies
Hot Stove has arrived and speculation runs rampant as usual. As Mets fans, we have little else to think about or cheer.
So, how do Jeff and Omar set forth to right the ship?
Let me throw my two cents worth in the pot...
Firstly, 2009 was an aberration and will not likely ever happen again.
Now to the more practical observations...

Marouane Chamakh has been tipped to move to Arsenal after Gunners manager Arsene Wenger sounded out his interest in the Bordeaux striker.
However, Adebayor-less Arsenal's plans to sign Chamakh might be jeopardized by Lyon.
Lyon president recently stated that he would welcome Chamakh with open arms. However, Marouane Chamakh prefers to hug Wenger, as reports...

Snake Bytes: Is Something Wrong With Dan Haren?

As Usual, It Sucks to Be a Marlins Fan
The lead from this article is classic:
Even after signing Jose Castillo on Christmas Eve, the Marlins may not be done giving themselves third base options.
Only in Miami, where the Marlins’ owner has trained his team’s “fans” to expect nothing and like it, could this even be i...

Ten Reasons The Giants Will Be Better This Season
In no particular order 1. No Tyler Walker to blow late inning leads. Walker was one of the worst setup men in baseball last season. He never was a good pitcher to begin with and he was seriously fat and out of shape last season, but Bruce Bochy kept on sending him out in the 8th inning to blow leads. The bullpen will be much improved with free agents Bob Howry and Jeremy Affeldt...

Apparently, there was no handshake agreement to save Wily Mo.
"I think he needs to go down there to get his everyday at-bats and reps in the outfield. He needs to prove, not only to the Nationals but 29 other clubs, that he is a viable Major League force." (Mike Rizzo, via Nationals dot com, 3/28/2009)

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the San Francisco Giants have claimed Jose Castillo off waivers and that the Florida Marlins have decided not to pull him back. Giants Solve Third Base Problem (/sarcasm off)
This weekend the Giants grabbed Pirates and Marlins cast-off Jose Castillo off of waivers. Castillo once hit a game-tying home run off of Armando Benitez (but hey, who hasn't?) that led to a loss that essentially derailed the Giants' 2006 season. Unfortunately, that's one of the very few bright spots...

How Do You Make the Giants' Offense Worse?
Until now, I'd thought that was kind of a Zen question, really, like "What did your face look like before your ancestors were born?" or something. Sadly, it isn't - the Giants "addressed" their middle infield problems today by claiming Jose Castillo from the Marlins. Ponder that, grasshopper.
