Via Chad Jennings (LoHud), we learn that the Yankees have cut Freddy Guzman and Josh Towers from the team’s 40-man roster. Rather than accept a minor league assignment, the two have elected for free agency. I know you’re heartbroken over losing Guzman and Towers, but don’t worry, this will pass…

Josh Towers Battered by Red
Cincinnati jumped on Josh Towers, who was still battling for a slot on the Dodgers roster, collecting a dozen hits and scoring ten runs, nine earned, in his four-inning start. The game was played in Las Vegas, and for some reason not announced, it will not count in the Cactus League standings. The Dodgers lost both ends of the two split-squad games.

Where will Josh Towers end up in 2009?

Oh really? I somehow remember cursing my TV at the ineptness of Josh Towers and have somehow glazed over his replacement, Jesse Litsch. Well I decided to look...

The Los Angeles Dodgers release Josh Towers
The Dodgers have released 33-year old righty starting pitcher Josh Towers. Towers started 8 games in AAA-ball for the Dodgers this year and he was 2-5 with a 8.05 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP. He allowed a stunning 62 hits (9 of which were homers) in only 38 innings this season in the minors. I guess the Dodgers could bring back Towers if they need a batting practice pitcher as that appears...

While he will be able to contribute, to assume the Pedro on the mound will be the same Cy Young Award winning pitcher might be asking too much. His return isn't as if the Mets are acquiring an ace pitcher...
