Offseason Outlook: Miami Marlins

Miami Marlins 2013 Record: (62-100, Last Place) Key Free Agents:  Juan Pierre It’s tough to speak kindly about the franchise that is the Miami Marlins. Coming off the joke that was unloading all the new stadium welcoming free agents they purchased the year prior, the Marlins were absolutely dreadful, as expected. Now, to be fair the franchise isn’t an embarrassment from an organizational...

Juan Pierre is even with the Yankee Clipper. Pierre tied Joe DiMaggio on the all-time hits list when he doubled in the seventh inning of the Miami Marlins' 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. For a team with the second-worst record in the majors, these are still moments worthy of celebration. Pierre, pinch-hitting for pitcher Brian Flynn, hit a double to...

Phillies Should Pursue Juan Pierre

Some Philadelphia Phillies fans thought that the team should have kept outfielder Juan Pierre. With Ben Revere out 6-8 weeks after surgery on his foot, bringing Pierre back makes sense. Pierre can be acquired on the cheap, can leadoff and set the table for the Phillies, and will give the team a great fourth outfielder when Revere returns. The 35 year old left hander is only hitting...

FAAB Mentality Week 12: Juan Pierre, Erasmo Ramirez

My little guy has already caught the baseball bug...One of the highlights of the game was the 3-hit performance of Anthony Rendon, who makes this week’s list of pickups. If you’re wondering why...

Marlins Offense: Possible Solutions Not Too Distant

With some internal and/or modest changes, the offensive woes have the possibility to be resolved more easily than expected. When looking at the 2013 Marlins season, the very second that the Opening Day lineup was announced with Placido Polanco in the cleanup spot behind Giancarlo Stanton, it was very clear that the offense was in severe dire straits far more worse than anticipated...

Pierre struggles with flyball, does he make the catch?

Miami Marlins outfielder Juan Pierre had some struggles in the outfield last night against the Cincinnati Reds. Joey Votto hit a deep fly ball that it looked, I stress looked, like he had easily. Watch the gif, it goes. “I Got it, i got it. O **** I don’t got it” As you see with the lucky dive he did get it. To make up for his theatrics he hit a leadoff homer in the...

Base Running Without a Bat

How far can a player go on base running alone? Probably not too far. Speed as a tool is obviously quite valuable, especially at an elite level, as it feeds both into the ability to provide value on the bases and in the field. Strictly in terms of offense, though, how good can a player be with a terrible bat and good base-running skills? Just for fun, here are five recent individual...

from loyal reader 'Preserve Jon:'I'm really surprised how bad he is. It seems that Charlie is inventing a few nicks and scrapes to keep him on the bench.
