U.S.S. Mariner Suggests A New Home For Justin Speier

No fair guessing where it is. Justin Speier, just released by the Angels yesterday, would love Safeco Field, where his home run problem would be somewhat limited. You could give him Batista’s spot immediately and make a nice little upgrade, while also finding a guy who you might want back next year. Or, you know, just promote Randy Messenger or something. Anything’s better than...

Our Trip to the White House

Wanted to wait to post this when I got some photos and finally did. One of our guys took a couple nice shots I'd thought I'd share. One of the days we were in DC, a few of us players (Reggie Willits, Justin Speier, Robb Quinlan) and staff got a tour of the White House, mostly the East Wing and some of the West Wing. I really had to pinch myself because it was surreal. I...

Toronto Blue Jays fans got a little scare when it was announced that Justin Speier may have aggravated the injury that kept him out in 2005. He looked recovered yesterday as he threw a host of fastballs with no pain at all. The last thing we need to do is lose a great pitcher like him two seasons in ...

Struggling reliever is still owed $6.5 million on his contract. The Angels would rather pay reliever Justin Speier $6.5 million not to pitch for them the rest of this season and all of next, giving the veteran right-hander his unconditional release before Tuesday's game with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Angels Bullpen: In-Speiering L.A. To Make a Move

Justin Speier's name seems sadly ironic at this point. After three consecutive dismal appearances for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the only person he's likely “in-Speiered” is general manager Tony Reagins, who is desperately looking for middle relief...relief. Speier faced 13 batters over his last three outings and recorded just one out–a sacrifice...

The Echo Of Justin Speier: Royals 12, Angels 3

Unlike years past, I didn't order my copy of Baseball Prospectus from Amazon, but kept dawdling until we actually arrived in Phoenix. I've only just now started reading it, but already I've got some criticisms of it and its sister website (emphasis mine): The steady erosion of PECOTA for pitching, and the explosion of new metrics. I imagine many people are happy to see...
