Rational and irrational anger: Riley’s rants and raves
Gettin it off my chest!
This week, things that bother me about the Canucks and the NHL.
Keith Ballard
Not a fan. At all. He has seven points (sixth among defencemen on the team), 57 PIM (third on the team), +1 (middle of the team) and two danger hip checks per game (leading team. by a lot).
He contributes NOTHING, and every game could potentially be another bad moment when cripples...

Keith Ballard Takes Bigger Role on Vancouver Defense
Keith Ballard got his first taste of top line minutes last night as he logged a game high 23:53 minutes of ice time in the 2 – 1 Vancouver Canucks win over the Nashville Predators, the 23:53 minutes of ice time was a season high for Ballard. And with Thursday’s unfortunate news that fellow defenseman Alexander Edler is likely gone until at least the playoffs due to his pending...

What does Keith Ballard need to do?
The more and more I watch Canucks games this year, the more I find myself thinking “what does Keith Ballard got to do to get some playing time?” The guy blocks shots, hits (hip checks!) and fights. He does this while having a great upside given what he has accomplished in the league and the fact that he’s relatively young. Still, Alain Vigneault treats him like...

Vigneault doing the defenseman shuffle while Ballard sits and waits
Keith Ballard sat out his fourth consecutive game this evening and it has Canucks nation puzzled. Fans and media alike have questioned this move by Vigneault which at first appeared to be a case of a coach sending a message to a player. That theory was largely thrown out after it became evident that this was more than just a couple of games in the press box. The theory also didn...

Keith Ballard's Blunder - Throws Puck Into Own Goal
Florida Panthers defensiveman Keith Ballard had an interesting blunder in last night's game against the Ottawa Senators. In the second period, Ballard accidentally swiped at the puck in play and then the puck trickled towards the Panthers goal and went in.If that name sounds familiar, Ballard earlier in the year accidentially injured his own goalie, Tomas Vokoun by accidentally...

Brenden Morrow… Could They? Would They?
Whenever there’s less than a month to go before the NHL trade deadline (February 27 this year), there are bound to be lots of wild rumours bouncing off the walls. One such wild rumour had Corey Perry on his way to the Vancouver Canucks for Corey Schneider, Keith Ballard and Mason Raymond. This is of course a ridiculous trade, one that doesn’t meet the Ducks needs at all...

Milan Mikhalek hit on Keith Ballard
Check out this hit by the Senators Milan Mikhalek on former Gopher and current Vancouver Canucks forward Keith Ballard, the hit caused an injury to Ballard's leg and he will probably be out of action for 2-4 weeks. From looking at the video it would appear to be a slew foot. What do you think?

Red Wings-Canucks quick take: karmic balance?
Maybe the Vancouver Canucks’ fans can at least argue that they got some karmic retribution despite dropping a 4-3 shootout decision to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.
The Wings out-shot the Canucks by an insane margin through the first two periods (30-11) and out-shot Vancouver 43-25 overall, but the Wings went 0-for-4 in 8:00 of PP time and surrendered 1-0, 2-1 and...

Keith Ballard hip checks, flips Jamie McGinn
Vancouver defenseman Keith Ballard had what might be the biggest check of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs Sunday afternoon during game four of the Western Conference Finals. San Jose's Jamie McGinn, who has already injured two Canucks defensemen, tried to line up Ballard early in the second period but Ballard saw it coming and threw a beautiful hip check along the boards. McGinn...

D Ballard filling in fine for banged-up Canucks
For a guy who downplays his baseball skills, Canucks defenseman Keith Ballard has been a pretty good reliever for banged-up Vancouver during the club's run to the Stanley Cup finals.

Vancouver Canucks Feel More Pain as Another Defenseman Goes Down
The Vancouver Canucks take another blow on defense as Ottawa Senators left winger Milan Michalek knocked out Keith Ballard to the ice, backwards, leaving Ballard’s leg pinned beneath him. (It was not fun to watch) After the doctor’s exam Ballard’s leg, the MRI showed a mild strain in a ligament in his right knee and we’re looking at around three to four weeks. Rookie...

San Jose Sharks vs. Canucks Blog: Love’ Em & Hate’ Em
A Budding Rivalry
The Vancouver Canucks came into Saturday’s afternoon tilt with the Sharks re-charge and re-configured with the addition of Chris Tanev.
The team had slippin since the Boston game, emotionally drained, physically beat up, and forced into a compressed run of game that left little time for the team to practice or even catch their breath.
Thankfully after Tuesday...

Video: Keith Ballard Flips McGinn With Textbook Hip Check
Keith Ballard had not played in the last seven playoff games for the Vancouver Canucks, but he made his presence felt during Game 4 against the San Jose Sharks with this huge hip check against Jamie McGinn. The most interesting note is that it was McGinn that knocked Vancouver defenders Christian Ehrhoff and Aaron Rome out of the lineup with Game 3 hits that allowed Ballard to even play.
