KIM JOHNSSON NEWS

Is Sami Lepisto The New Kim Johnsson?

The Blackhawks do, contrary to popular belief, have someone under contract right now named Sami Lepisto. He’s a defenseman, is getting paid, but hasn’t been seen in almost a month. What happened to Lepisto? As far as we can tell, the … Continue reading →

Blackhawks Season Preview: Nick Leddy

When looking around the roster for the Chicago Blackhawks, there might not be one player that is expected to elevate his game this season than 20-year-old defenseman Nick Leddy. Leddy was acquired from Minnesota during the 2009-10 season, along with Kim Johnsson, in exchange for Cam Barker. Even before the Wild let Barker loose this summer, the trade already proved to be a steal...

Madhouse Season Review: Stan Bowman

While Stan's name will be on the Cup, that was Dale Tallon's team. Tallon had made all the draft picks and free agent signings, and Stan Bowman's only contribution to last year's team was the acquisition of Kim Johnsson from Minnesota.Johnsson got hurt after eight games and wasn't seen again. So much for that. This year's was the first team that Stan's...

Blackhawks Season in Review: Nick Leddy

Flickr Photo via BridgetDS It wasn’t quite a tale of two seasons for young defenseman Nick Leddy, but it was close. Heading into the season, Leddy wasn’t really expected to be anywhere near the Blackhawks’ roster, save maybe a callup as a fill-in here and there. But he surprised in training camp and made his way into the top six to start the season, with the injury...

Nick Leddy Establishing A Permanent Home In Chicago

With the Chicago Blackhawks struggling to find consistency on the blueline this season, Nick Leddy has been quite a blessing for the defending Stanley Cup champs. Leddy was originally acquired in the deal that sent Cam Barker to the Minnesota Wild, a swap which also brought Kim Johnsson to the Blackhawks in their stretch run of 2009-2010. Johnsson hasn’t been seen since, and...

John Jaeckel: Sources: Hawks Working On A Big Move

About a year ago, I reported a rumor that had the Hawks kicking the tires on Niclas Wallin, then of Carolina. Subsequently, Wallin was shipped to San Jose. And the Hawks got their own version of Wallin, Kim Johnsson, from Minnesota. Point being, sometimes signs and clues mean something's up. Just not exactly what's rumored. I don't know (and I wouldn't bet...

A Closer Look at the 'Hawks Top Brass

I've spent a great amount of time this season bemoaning the Hawks players' shortcomings on the ice or in between the ears. It's easy to do because it's the easiest to see and analyze. But clearly all is not well in the places we can't see: in the coaches room and the front office.A couple weeks ago, there were some muted calls for Coach Qunneville's head....

Paul McCann: Monday Morning Notes

- As August begins, the excitement starts, the season is just around the corner, but there are still free agents out there for the taking. Forwards like Teemu Selanne, Bill Guerin, Mike Modano and John Madden could add experience and leadership. Blueliners like Kim Johnsson and Willie Mitchell would be great adds for a team looking for some stability at D. Plenty of goaltending help...

Blackhawks ink D Leddy for 3 years (AP)

Former University of Minnesota defenseman Nick Leddy signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Taken with the 16th pick in the 2009 draft by the Minnesota Wild, Leddy was traded to the Blackhawks with defensemen Kim Johnsson for defenseman Cam Barker on Feb. 12. Leddy had three goals and eight assists as a freshman for the Gophers last season.

Is Nick Leddy the next one and done...

According to Gopher hockey fan Hammy's twitter rumor has it another Gopher hockey player is going to leave early. Don't be surprised if you hear about a player departure soon. Not good news.Over on Sioux Sports a few have posted they think it's Nick Leddy who was traded by the Wild to Chicago in the Kim "Yawnson" Johnsson trade. This is one problem with recruiting players that are...

Wild Signs German Goaltender, Endras

In the summer of 2006, the Minnesota Wild made one of the most important transactions in franchise history. It didn't happen on July 1, when free agency kicked off and the club landed Keith Carney, Kim Johnsson and Mark Parrish in an unprecede...

Free Agent D-Men

Yesterday, I covered free agent goalies, because I think that’s our most glaring need. Adding another defenseman (or two) to the mix would be a huge help as well. Of course team defense relies more on the entire 5-man unit that’s on the ice, but when you have individuals that create a liability, that’s a problem. During the regular season, the Flyers’ bottom...

How to beat the Predators…

Here we all are a mere one day prior to the opening game of the playoff match-up between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Nashville Predators and after hours and hours of analyzing and statistical comparisons I have come up with the ultimate way to beat the pesky Predators and here it is… Score more goals then them in at least 4 games before they do. Quite a genius analysis don...

Second City onto the Second Season — and it’s about time.

We’ve waited 82 games. Some elated us, others brought us to the brink of a heart attack — and some provided both. Friday is the day we’ve been looking forward to since Game 5 in Detroit. And it’s about damn time the playoffs are here. Let’s just hope the first round doesn’t put us to sleep. The Blackhawks face the Nashville Predators and  Barry...

It’s a win. Shut up: ‘Hawks 6, Blues 5

I came home to the NHL on the Fly panel saying, “This is the kind of game where you wonder if Chicago is ready for the playoffs.” Yes, the Blackhawks went up 6-1 and held on for a 6-5 win against the Shithole of America Blues. But to doubt the ‘Hawks are ready for the playoffs — after a fifth straight victory with a defensive unit held together by duct tape...

Avalanche clinch playoff birth; questions abound about possible playoff opponents

The Colorado Avalanche are heading to the playoffs thanks to the San Jose Sharks victory over the Calgary Flames last night. After a terrible year last year, the redemption of making the playoffs in a tough Western Conference may make the Avs a real player in the Western Conference playoffs. With three games remaining, the Avs could finish as high as fifth in the Western Conference...

Should Hawk Fans Be Scared?

Hawk fans were used to their team dominating other teams without too many gaps in between wins, but a recent uncanny slump has put the whole fan base on the edge of their seats. It’s not just that they are losing, but they are looking bad when they are losing. The 4-2 loss Sunday looked almost as bad as the 8-3 loss last Thursday as the Hawks lacked any work ethic or motivation...

Shuffle up and deal: Q-Stache juggles lines as ‘Hawks head to St. Louis

Want me to spare you the details? OK, how about I just make it quick and to the point. The Blackhawks are playing like they replaced their skate blades with Bic one-use razors and their hearts with well-packed snowballs, a la Franklin Delano Romanowksi.  They look like Kramer begging for 100 percent anti-drop dead protection, and I’m not ready to grant it. I’ve refused...

John Jaeckel: Some Good News About The Hawks

No, it's not the miraculous, imminent return of Brian Campbell to the lineup. Or even Kim Johnsson (at least nothing's been announced). It's about another Hawk defenseman, Nick Boynton. He, of one assist and +1 with 7 PIM in 5 games. Why is this "good" news? Well, it's a different kind of good. The good news here is that Boynton is a diabetic, playing...
