The Travelers Championship - Round 3 Round-Up

Buried under all the hype surrounding Tiger Woods' return to golf at the Quicken Loans National and USA playing Portugal in the World Cup, the Travelers Championship is quietly putting on an excellent golf tournament. This weeks tournament is proving to be a massive departure from Martin Kaymer's runaway victory at the U.S. Open, with 18 players within five strokes of 1st...

The Travelers Championship - Round 2 Round-Up

I'll take my crow over medium, thank you, as Scott Langley leads by one over Harris English, K.J. Choi, and Michael Putnam. Picking Harris English and Scott Langley to lose is proving to be on par with picking Costa Rica and Chile to lose their most recent World Cup games. Sure, it looked like an easy enough call, but if stats and analysis could predict everything, sports would...

The Travelers Championship - Power Rankings

I’d like to start out talking about the World Cup because, mostly, I’d just like to avoid talking about my picks for the U.S. Open. With Pinehurst knocking away Bubba Watson’s shots like Tim Howard breaking up Ghana’s scoring chances, I was left with little in the way of points by Sunday as my other picks slowly faded out of the top 10. This spring has been particularly harsh...

Hornets Sting Larrazabal 20 Times

Kuala Lumpur — Spanish golfer Pablo Larrazabal jumped into a pond on the 14th hole yesterday to escape a travelling swarm of hornets at the 2014 Maybank Malaysian Open. Out of nowhere, Larrazabal was attacked and stung 20 times, according to medics on the scene. Soaking wet, the three-time European Tour winner collected himself and struck a determined mid-iron hole-high before...

Golfstradamaus: Valspar Championship

“With the way he’s swinging it right now, [Bubba] Watson is excellent choice this week.” - Golfstradamaus, 3/4/14Well, I have to say, I’m getting pretty good at picking the runner up. Bubba Watson’s second place finish at Doral makes two weeks in a row I’ve been knocking on the winner’s circle’s door.Related Link: Attack of the Blue MonsterWhile last week wasn...

Golfstradamaus: Sony Open and Volvo Golf Champions

“[Zach] Johnson would be a great choice this week at 12/1. With the way he’s played lately, it’s hard to believe there are four guys getting less money this week than Zach Johnson.” – Golfstradamaus 12/31/13It may be a new year, but I’m still the same old Golfstradamaus and that means if you were smart enough to listen up last week, you’ve started off 2014 in the win...

Ishikawa heads strong Asia contingent at World Cup

Ryo Ishikawa is making his second trip to Royal Melbourne, with fond memories of the course from the 2011 Presidents Cup and as part of a strong Asian contingent for this week's World Cup. Equally strong are Ishikawa's recollections as a 10-year-old of watching on television his first World Cup at Gotemba City, Japan in 2001 when Ernie Els and Retief Goosen won for South...

World Cup set for Olympic-style preview

The World Cup this week will offer a glimpse of what to expect when golf returns to the Olympics at Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Individual stroke play and world rankings will determine who plays and, for the most part, players will carry the flag of their countries on their golf bags. After that, the similarities begin to fade. The World Cup which begins Thursday at Royal Melbourne...

Studs and duds from The Barclays

The Barclays -- round one of the FedEx Cup playoffs -- wasn't a major, but at times it felt like one. There was $1.44 million awaiting the winner (the same amount for Masters and US Open victors), some players succumbed to the pressure down the stretch, and Adam Scott played like a stud. Logically, he tops our list of studs from the weekend. And as with any tournament, there...

K.J. Choi and Greg Chalmers record back-to-back hole-in-ones on same hole

I’m not sure what the odds of players in consecutive groups recording hole-in-ones on the same hole are, but they have to be astronomical.  On the 14th hole of the 3rd round at The Barclays, K.J. Choi and Greg Chalmers did just that.  Both players used pitching wedges for the 135-yard par 3 and the two shots were recorded just a few minutes apart. [YouTube]

Two PGA Golfers Aced The Par-3 14th Hole of the Barclays in Consecutive Groups

This is definitely the first time I have seen anything like this. K.J. Choi and Greg Chalmers were competing at the 2013 Barclays which took place this year at Liberty National, and in the third round on Saturday they each aced the par-3 14th hole. To make it even more coincidental, it happened to be that they were playing in consecutive groups. You can watch them both below....

Chalmers, Choi ace 14th hole

Greg Chalmers couldn't even give K.J. Choi 15 minutes to enjoy the cheers around the 14th green. Moments after Choi one-hopped his tee shot at the picturesque par-3 14th into the heart of the cup for a hole-in-one in the third round of the Barclays, Chalmers did the same, spinning back a pitching wedge from just beyond the hole for his second hole-in-one of the season. Kevin Streelman climbs in Tampa Bay

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) -- Kevin Streelman figured a good round Saturday would at least get him in the mix at the Tampa Bay Championship. It wound up giving him a share of the lead. Adam Scott and K.J. Choi led a surprising retreat at Innisbrook, allowing for a wild game of musical chairs at the top of the leaderboard with nothing remotely close to being settled going into the final...

From 2012 to 2013 on the PGA Tour

Best fantasy golfer of 2012 – The presumptive choice is Rory McIlroy. He duplicated Luke Donald’s amazing 2011 feat of winning the money titles in both the US and European Tours. McIlroy won a major in dominating fashion for the second year in a row, something that Donald has yet to do by any margin. And he led the PGA Tour in scoring average with a figure of 68.873, just a hair...
