Antti Niemi’s arbitration technically got underway on Tuesday when both sides exchanged written briefs in advance of their hearing on Thursday. All signs point to the Hawks going to arbitration for just the second time with a player (Kyle Calder in 2006) since the current CBA was signed.

The skinny so far:
Goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur has been signed to a 1-year extension. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets called up to play more than one game this year or if he’ll be able to nab the number 2 spot. I’m hoping that now that he’s been resigned, he will be more inclined to submit to an interview!
The other two free agents who have resigned are defenseman...

Wirtz Death Brings Blackhawks To Life
On April 8, 2007, the Chicago Blackhawks might as well have been left for dead.
The 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars capped a 31-42 season for the Hawks. It was a year that started with Trent Yawney on the bench and ended with Denis Savard directing the Indianhead for the displaced Yawney.
