Brewers hitting woes resume against Hernandez, Phillies

MILWAUKEE -- In the matter of a week and a half, the Milwaukee Brewers have went from feeling great about their first half of the season to trying to make it to the All-Star break without their current skid from getting out of hand. Unable to solve Phillies right-hander Roberto Hernandez, the Brewers managed just three hits Wednesday night and fell 4-1 to Philadelphia at Miller Park...

Kyle Lohse’s pine tar laden bat was stuck to his hands

During Wednesday night’s Phillies-Brewers game, Kyle Lohse laid down a sac bunt in the fifth inning. He kept the bat in his hands for nearly his entire trek up the first base line, and when he got back into the dugout, we learned why – there was too much pine tar on the bat, and it was stuck to Lohse’s hands. Somewhere, George Brett is nodding approvingly.

Lohse hit with loss after two costly mistakes

Cruising through the first seven outs of his start, Kyle Lohse looked like he was about to settle in for yet another strong outing. But in a matter of two pitches, everything changed for Lohse and the Milwaukee Brewers. With five strikeouts already while working in the third inning, Lohse allowed a one-out single to Reds pitcher Alfredo Simon. One pitch later, Billy Hamilton connected...

Reds, Brewers go toe-to-toe with All-Star hopefuls Simon, Lohse on the mound

After a surprisingly strong first half, Alfredo Simon is hoping to make the NL All-Star team. A case could be made for Kyle Lohse, too. These All-Star candidates go toe-to-toe as the Cincinnati Reds open a three-game home set against the Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Used exclusively as a reliever over the previous two years, Simon (10-3, 2.81 ERA) has greatly...

Brewers' Braun delivers his first walk-off winner since 2011

MILWAUKEE -- In years past, Ryan Braun probably doesn't even get a chance to be the hero with runners at second and third with two outs in the ninth inning of a tie game. But with the way Braun has scuffled in June and the red-hot Jonathan Lucroy hitting behind him, the Colorado Rockies went right after Milwaukee's right fielder with the game on the line Friday night. Braun...

Brewers looking to pad NL Central lead prior to All-Star break

More than in any other team sport, early-season success is generally met with suspicion by baseball fans, and that skepticism only grows when the club in question finished 14 games under .500 at the conclusion of the previous campaign. Following a dismal 74-88 record which landed them fourth in the NL Central and 23 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013, the Milwaukee Brewers...

The Brewers Are All Stars (Pitching Edition)

The Brewers offense has been great this year, but of course it has. That's Doug Melvin's thing. He builds a team that hits a bunch of homeruns and then he fills it with pitchers who give up even more. Sure, he's built a team that hasn't done that but he did it by trading like 15 guys for one and a half good seasons of Shaun Marcum and Zack Greinke. It's not his...

Brewers finish 'weird' road swing through Colorado with narrow win

In a series filled with strange plays and miscues, it was fitting another blunder by the Colorado Rockies helped the Milwaukee Brewers hold on for a 6-5 victory Sunday to complete their first sweep at Coors Field since 2004. Leading off the top of the ninth inning, Rockies left fielder Corey Dickerson just missed a home run off Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez. The ball hit so...

Marshall fined, not suspended

PHOENIX -- Manager Kirk Gibson's fist bump was about the hardest hit D-backs reliever Evan Marshall took after plunking Ryan Braun, as it turned out. Marshall on Saturday was fined an undisclosed amount but not suspended for hitting the Milwaukee right fielder in the hip with a pitch in Tuesday's 7-5 loss at Chase Field, a punishment that seemed to fit the crime. Diamondbacks Drill Ryan Braun, Allow Grand Slam On Next Pitch (Video)

The Arizona Diamondbacks needed to enforce one of baseball’s “unwritten rules,” and they figured Ryan Braun was as good a target as any. Boy, were they wrong. It all started in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Milwaukee Brewers starter Kyle Lohse drilled Diamondbacks batter Chris Owings with a high inside fastball. The next inning, with Arizona holding a 5-3 lead, Diamondbacks...

D-backs get tough, Brewers get even

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks got their payback Tuesday. It was dwarfed by Milwaukee's a few moments later, however, a tradeoff the D-backs could have done without. It just wasn't Kyle Lohse's night. Coming off a three-hit shutout, Lohse allowed eight earned runs on nine hits over five-plus innings in what was his worst start in a Brewers uniform. The Pittsburgh Pirates turned what was a competitive game into a rout with an eight-run sixth inning against Lohse and reliever Tyler Thornburg, handing the Brewers a 15-5 loss, their most...
