Boston Athlete of the Day: Hard-Hitting Kyle McLaren
During the late 1990's and early 2000's, offensive players feared skating into the Bruins half of the ice when Kyle McLaren was back on defense, ready to take some shots. McLaren was drafted by Boston in the first-round (ninth overall) in the 1995 NHL Draft. He played his first full season of professional hockey at the young age of 18.
One of McLaren's most memorable...

Off to Vegas Again…
It’s been a big week for me. New car, new job, and now, much like injured training camp invitee Kyle McLaren, I will not be around for Rangers training camp, either. While he will be failing physicals, I’ll be in lovely Las Vegas for the 2nd year in a row. Got a great deal too. Last year, we paid $120/night for the MGM Grand. This year, we got a nicer hotel for $90/night...

New York Rangers Need To Add Affordable Snarl to Blueline
As the New York Rangers put the finishing touches on next season's roster, it is clear that there are a few holes in the line up. First, they are missing a true No. 1 center but as I have written in previous articles, I believe a trade for one will be happening shortly.
Next they are missing a defenseman to serve as a puck mover and a power play specialist; not someone easily...

You can bet Doug Wilson is on the phone a lot these days. Why? According to HockeyBuzz, his San Jose Sharks currently have just under $1.35 million of cap space, and that counts only 17 skaters and one goalie. The current cap space gives the Sharks the ability complete their roster requirement by adding a skater and a goalie at or near the league minimum. However, there will not be...

Flyers avoid Briere scare, rescind trade
Watching Danny Briere get injured is becoming an all too familiar
sight. Not only did the Flyers get beat down by the Calgary Flames on
Thursday, but Briere re-injured his groin. There was some thought on
Friday that Briere could be out for weeks or even months...In other injury news, the Flyers have nullified one of their trade
deadline deals. Unfortunately, it wasn't the...

We'd Cry Too if You Traded Us to Phoenix, But It's Time for Flyers Fans to Move on
When the trade deadline was approaching, it was easy to look at two
glaring on-ice needs: a top blueliner and a true #1 goalie. However, no
players fitting either description changed teams yesterday. No great
goalies were really available, and the asking price on the defenseman
was too ...

Upshall Sent to the Desert
The NHL trade deadline was yesterday and the Flyers made a few moves that they feel may help them come playoff time. The biggest name to be sent packing was Scottie Upshall, who along with a 2011 second-round pick, was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes for Dan Carcillo.Yes, it is disappointing to lose a high energy guy like Scottie Upshall, especially after the chemistry he had with...

Flyers trade Upshall, get worse at the Deadline
Most contending teams in the NHL use the Trade Deadline as a time to
improve their team by adding players that can help them make a run at
the Stanley Cup. The Flyers are usually one of the more aggressive
teams at the Deadline but this season they were hindered because they
were right up against the salary cap. Philly still made a couple of
moves, unfortunately, it leaves the...

Rumor of the Day
Not much in the way of rumors these days, well rumors that don't involve a certain goaltender playing in Chicago. And the new Sharks Head Coach is...
Who?!?Yeah, that's pretty much how most Sharks fans feel right now, as the search is over for a new skipper, and the results yielded are just a tad anonymous in nature. Todd McLellan becomes the 7th Head Coach of the Sharks, and will be entering his first year as an NHL Head Coach. Little Mac (I'm coining the term now, please send royalties to me via email) won a Calder Cup...

Ehrhoff says hard work is key for Sharks
The biggest German moment in NHL history was Uwe Krupp's triple overtime, Stanley Cup-winning goal for Colorado in Game Four of the 1996 Stanley Cup finals versus Florida. But Krupp, currently coaching his country's national team, could see his "title" challenged if the San Jose Sharks win their first Cup in 2008, as many pundits expect. With a German backup goalie...
