In brief: when Cueto returns, who leaves?
Can you believe the number of times this poor guy has been hit? He must a walking bruise by this point. (AP Photo/Al Behrman)Last game
After sweeping the series with the Cubs, the Reds lost the series opener against the Braves last night, 7-4.
Bronson Arroyo had another rough start, giving up 4 runs (earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks through 5.0 innings. Alfredo Simon pitched 2 innings...
In brief: 5-game losing streak
Last game
Can I just write *shakes head* here and be done with it?
The Reds were swept yesterday by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Friday they got a shaky start from Mike Leake, which maybe isn’t so surprising after all. Saturday they lost Johnny Cueto to what is still a mystery injury.
Yesterday it was another of those hit-the-wall kinds of games. Mat Latos was rocking a shut-out when...
Thursday's mixed bag of Reds news and notes
Well, Cincinnati's road trip to St. Louis didn't go so well. After taking game one of the series by scoring nine runs in the final inning, the Reds proceeded to get outscored, 15-1, over the next two games of the series.
I don't know what it is, but Busch Stadium has been a Bermuda Triangle of sorts for the Reds in the past decade. This last series did nothing to help...
In brief: An old-fashioned butt-whipping
Last game
The Reds were unable to take the series from the Cardinals, losing 10-0 in what was an embarrassing outing all around. The offense managed 5 hits and no runs, and the pitching was something you hope to never see again. Homer Bailey was solid through the first four innings, but fell apart and was knocked out of the game in the 5th when he allowed 4 runs. Both John Jay and...
Marshall Goes on DL
Coming into the 2013 season the Reds appeared to be blessed with great bullpen depth. That will be tested early in the year as their top lefty set-up man, Sean Marshall, went on the DL yesterday with tendonitis in his shoulder. Veteran Logan Ondrusek was recalled from AA to replace him in time to allow a run in his first appearance of the season last night.
Reds place Marshall on DL with tendinitis
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Sean Marshall, who's been bothered for several weeks by left shoulder tendinitis, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
The move was made retroactive to Monday, and right-hander Logan Ondrusek was recalled from Double-A Pensacola and was expected to arrive in time for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Reds place Sean Marshall on disabled list, recall Logan Ondrusek from Pensacola
It seems as though the shoulder fatigue southpaw Sean Marshall has been battling lately has finally become too much to bear.
On Wednesday, the Reds placed Marshall on the 15-day disabled list due to shoulder tendinitis.
The move was announced just prior to Cincinnati's series finale against the Cardinals.
Logan Ondrusek will take Marshall's spot on the roster after...

This team has a lot of intriguing guys on the roster. Some who are looking to build upon what they did in 2012 and some who are looking to rebound from 2012. The Blue Wahoos have 13 of my Top 40 Prospects on their roster.

It’s Opening Day for the Major Leagues!
Ok, so I am actually typing this as I watch the Rangers at Astros on Sunday Night Baseball, so technically, Sunday is “Opening Day”, but today is Opening Day here in Cincinnati. It will be strange waiting for a 4pm first pitch, but I guess we don’t have much of a choice. I will be watching the game from the comfort of my home, eating snacks and hopefully watching win #1 of...
Reds send reliever Ondrusek to minors
The Reds made their final bullpen moves on Sunday, sending right-handed relievers Logan Ondrusek and Jose Arredondo to the minors.
Ondrusek, who struggled with his control during spring training, was optioned to Double-A Pensacola. Arredondo, who appeared in 66 games last season, was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville. The Reds chose to keep left-hander Manny Parra, who signed...
Reds send Arredondo, Ondrusek to minors
CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Reds made their final bullpen moves on Sunday, sending right-handed relievers Logan Ondrusek and Jose Arredondo to the minors.

The Brief: preparing for the All-Star Game
Homer Bailey is looking good so far. Not no-hitter good, but you want to save those for the regular season anyway.Last Game
Homer Bailey took his turn on the mound yesterday against Kansas City and put in 2 scoreless innings. He struck out 5 and allowed only 1 hit. Unfortunately for him, the Royals are on a tirade this spring and went to town on Tony Cingrani (1 ER), Logan Ondrusek...
Spring training game 3: Reds 0, Indians 3
The Reds wrapped up their first spring training series yesterday when they lost to the Indians. In fact, it’s been three losses in a row to the Indians to start off this training season, but yesterday’s was special in that the other two were slugfests in which the Reds just happened to be behind when the innings ran out. Still, with 20 runs scored in the first 3 games, the Reds...
Playing Pepper: A Cincy All-Star game and more Reds quick hits
Wrong kind of pepper
Is the offseason over yet? I'm ready for some baseball. It's been a while since I posted anything as I have been busy with a few other commitments but I've found some time today to put together what I hope will become a regular thing. Today it's called Playing Pepper. Next time it could be called something else. I'm still working that...
Reds, Ondrusek avoid arbitration with 2-year deal
Logan Ondrusek and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a two-year contract.
The team announced the deal Thursday night.
Ondrusek, a right-handed reliever, had filed for salary arbitration after going 5-2 with a 3.46 ERA and two saves last season. Teams and players are set to exchange proposed salaries Friday.
Cincinnati still has six players in arbitration: pitchers Homer Bailey...
Proposing a new stat for relievers
by: Chase Fitzgerald
Staff Writer
I had an idea for a stat a while ago called SP (Scores Preserved). To get on “SP” you had to A) not be the starting pitcher and B) get 3 consecutive outs without giving up a home run. With there pretty much being no stats to judge relief pitchers besides saves and holds, I felt this stat was needed so I decided to calculate it. I found it...
Reds Caravan is coming to town
You know the drought of baseball news is about to break when you start hearing about the Reds Caravan. A couple weeks after that it’ll be pitchers and catchers reporting, then the drama of who’s going to make the roster, then, before you know it, Opening Day.
The dates, stops, and players on the tour have been announced, and it is an impressive line-up. Kudos to the Reds for...
Setting the roster at the last minute
After initially announcing that the playoff roster would be set on Friday, the Cincinnati Reds changed their mind and didn’t announce it until a few hours before tonight’s game.
The players who didn’t make it aren’t a surprise. Devin Mesoraco, Mike Leake, and Logan Ondrusek were all left off.
Starters (4)
Bronson Arroyo
Homer Bailey
Johnny Cueto
Mat Latos
Bullpen (7)
Jose...
Reds carry 11 pitchers for series vs. Giants
The Cincinnati Reds left right-handed reliever Logan Ondrusek off the roster for their division series matchup against the San Francisco Giants.
The Reds announced their roster before Game 1 on Saturday. They are carrying 11 pitchers for the series, with fifth starter Mike Leake and Ondrusek being held out.
Ondrusek had the fourth most appearances on the Reds this season with 63...
Game 158: Reds 1, Pirates 2
The Reds let the Pirates tie up the series last night when they lost 1-2.
After Homer Bailey’s no-hitter the night before, Mike Leake kind of needed a perfect game and four hits to get himself into serious contention for the play-off roster. Unfortunately, he blew the perfect game on the second batter when Josh Harrison singled to center field. He did go 1-for-2 on the night, though...
Game 155: Brewers 8, Reds 1
The Reds have already clinched and may be better off with the #2 seed than with the #1 seed. Meanwhile, the Brewers have to have a really spectacular showing the rest of the season to have a chance to sniff the second wildcard bid to the post season.
And it showed last night.
Bronson Arroyo had his worst outing in a long, long time. He worked 6.0 innings and allowed 4 runs (earned...
Game 147: Reds 5, Marlins 4
The Reds just barely eked out a win yesterday to avoid being swept in the 3-game series by the Marlins in Miami.
Mat Latos started for the Reds, and while he wasn’t exactly his sometimes-dominant self, he put in a pretty good showing. In 7.2 innings of work, Latos allowed 4 runs (earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks.
Sam LeCure finished off the eighth inning and pitched the ninth without...
Game 143: Pirates 3, Reds 5
The Pirates scored first in last night’s game, in the top of the first. That was the last time the Pirates would lead in the game, as the Reds tied it up in the bottom of the first, took a commanding lead in the second, and tacked on an insurance run in the eighth.
Mike Leake started for the Reds and he was good. He pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 3 runs (earned) on 9 hits and a...
Game 141: Astros 5, Reds 1
The Reds finished off the series with the Astros last night by losing by the same score they won by on Saturday. That loss made for another losing series for the Reds and minor slippage to 8.5 games in the lead of the NLC.
It was Johnny Cueto on the mound, and he had a stinker of an outing. He worked 4.0 innings, during which he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk. Blerg. Thatâ€...
