Rattlers rout Sharks to improve to 3-0

PHOENIX -- The last time the Arizona Rattlers and Jacksonville Sharks met in the desert was three years ago in ArenaBowl XXIV. The Rattlers have long memories. After losing to the Sharks on the final play of that championship game, Arizona (3-0) made sure it took care of business Saturday night, scoring early and often in a 63-38 victory over Jacksonville (1-2) in front of 8,586...

Once homeless, Chiefs' Gilyard offers perspective as much as speed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. So he runs. He runs for Joe, wherever the hell he is. Probably under that same tree, in Washington Park, casting aspersions at the skies above. Or inside the gazebo, if it looks like rain. "Every time I get to Cincinnati, I've got to make sure I stop by the park and see if I can catch Joe there," Mardy Gilyard chuckles. "He might be out running...

New York Jets – Where Are Additions Needed?

Where aren’t additions needed, AMIRITE? Just kidding…Yes, the New York Jets are 32nd in ESPN’s “5 months before they actually play a real game” Power Rankings but of course we know that means nothing. The Jets have steadily improved arguably the league’s worst 2012 roster over the course of the off-season. You can make a very sensible argument that they are a bottom...

Kansas City Chiefs ink three players to roster

Head coach Andy Reid is wasting no time re-shaping the Kansas City Chiefs roster. On Thursday the team announced the signing of three players to their roster. DL Marcus Dixon, TE Kevin Brock and WR Mardy Gilyard. All three players have NFL experience and Gilyard spent time on the Philadelphia Eagles roster in 2012 under Andy Reid. DL Marcus Dixon was an undrafted free agent that...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Chiefs signed wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, tight end Kevin Brock and defensive end Marcus Dixon on Monday as they attempt to build depth at the bottom of their roster. Kansas City was particularly thin at wide receiver last year, and with the prospect of losing Dwayne Bowe to free agency, new general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid are searching...

He re-joined the Jets on Nov. 28, and had two catches for 15 yards while appearing in four games.

Gilyard’s golden grill

Golden smile We’ve got more coming on the Jets in the next few days. For now, though, a quick one we couldn’t help but notice: Mardy Gilyard’s golden smile. I’ll admit it, I fall in love with college players and sometimes fail to take any sort of rational view of what they can or should become as NFL players. I can’t help it. I’ve still got these memories of Mardy Gilyard...

Lots to get to in Jets Land as usual with just three games left to play, so let’s just jump right into this week’s Stock Watch. On This Day in 2009: Cincinnati 45 Pittsburgh 44

On this day in 2009, the Cincinnati Bearcats met up with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the defacto Big East title game. This game has been the zenith of Cincinnati Bearcats football. It was the game that fueled me to start this blog. I wanted to talk to Cincinnati fans about this game and enjoy the one of the best games I've seen with them. Dan Hoard said this was the best game...

Jeremy Kerley (heel, hamstring) was not at practice on Monday. Gilyard will add depth to the banged up wide receiver corps and could take over punt returns. OG Hayworth Hicks was waived in a corresponding move. He was drafted by the...

DeSean Jackson misses Thursday practice due to injury

As if the Eagles didn’t have enough issues with wide receiver depth with Jeremy Maclin’s hip stinger, suffered during Philadelphia’s Week 1 win against the Browns, the team saw DeSean Jackson sit out of practice on Thursday due to a hamstring injury. Eagles odds and ends – Maclin injured, Gilyard back, Ravens up next

Andy Reid announced after a skin-of-your teeth win against Cleveland in week 1 that wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has a hip pointer. Maclin caught 7 passes Sunday for 96 yards and was the Eagles best receiver. The fact that he was even able to play the whole game was a small victory. Maclin got roughed up on two plays, and was shaken up both times. He sat out a down after the first...

Philadelphia Eagles cut their loses and cut S Jaiquawn Jarrett, re-sign WR Mardy Gilyard

The Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday cut their 2011 2nd-round draft pick, safety Jaiquawn Jarrett. They didn’t want to do it. Who wants to admit defeat on a 54th overall selection in the draft after just 17 games? The fact that he survived the final cuts to the 53-man roster tells you that. He had a disastrous showing in the first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers,...
