The Michael Morse 38 Special T-Shirt

While you're sitting around measuring the shift in the balance of power in the NL East after the Nationals signed Mark Teahen to a minor-league deal today, and being thankful that there are only 13 days left until Nats pitchers and catchers report to camp, up there is an ad for the Michael Morse 38 Special shirt from the 22 Fresh Michael Morse collection. Could Fukudome be last option from outside...

About a week ago the Mets were supposedly in the market for a LHB off the bench and in a good spot to grab who they wanted. A week has passed and three lefties have signed minor league deals elsewhere; Juan Pierre, Rick Ankiel and Mark Teahen are all off the board. So now it's down to Damon, Ibanez and Fukudome still on the open market. While he's a perfect fit I don'...

The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training. The team also made official the signing of outfielder Rick ...

LHBs with connection to the front office

I know for some this is a repetitive topic, but let's face there is absolutely nothing to talk about in regard to the Mets. It's amazing how little they done and how long it's been, the last signing was Ronny Cedano on January 12th. They haven't even signed anyone to a minor league deal with an invitee to camp, Tuiasosopo will go straight to minor league camp....

Going To WAR On The Trades Of The GMDM Era- Part 4: 2009

In part 4 of this multi-part series, we take a look at the trades of the Dayton Moore administration that were made in 2009 for the Kansas City Royals. Click the years to see the previous articles: 2006 2007 2008  As we move on to 2009 and beyond, it is important to note that the data begins to become a little less reliable.  The reason being that there are fewer years on which...

Who are the three guys I would invite...

Ok, here is the game: based on what is already on the roster what three players would I sign to minor league deals with an invite to spring training. The player has to be realistically willing to accept a minor league deal with the Mets...My first pick would be Ross Ohlendorf the 29 y/o right hander had two solid years as a starter for the Pirates, prior to that he was used as...

Blue Jays Part Ways With Mark Teahen, Officially Adds Oliver

This is probably as amicable a goodbye as it gets. The Blue Jays announced earlier today that they have DFA’d veteran corner infielder Mark Teahen, eating the remainder of his $5.5 million salary for the 2012 season so that he may find a job elsewhere. The move opens up a spot for the addition of 41-year old lefty Darren Oliver, who officially joins the Toronto bullpen with...

Blue Jays Drop Canadian Third Baseman!

No, it's not Brett Lawrie. To make room for Darren Oliver the Blue Jays have designated Mark Teahen for assignment. The Blue Jays will trade or release Teahen after the prescribed waiting period, which is ten days I think.Teahen's status change is not a surprise, there is no spot for him on the 2012 squad. I assume AA has been trying to deal him with no success. The Jays...

Blue Jays Designate Mark Teahen For Assignment

The Blue Jays designated third baseman Mark Teahen for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Darren Oliver, announced the team. The Jays acquired Teahen from the White Sox as part of a salary dump, and they'll be assuming the $5.5MM left on his contract for 2012.  The 30-year-old hit .200/.273/.300 in 177 plate appearances last year, playing the infield and outfield corners.

A Look Back At The Worst Royals Team Of All Time

In the last 15 years, the Kansas City Royals have put some pretty pathetic teams on the field.  As some time has passed since some of these historically inept Royals teams have come and gone, it is interesting to take a look back at the worst of them all, the 2005 version of the Royals. Having the benefit of perspective, it really is astonishing to think that anyone in the organization...

Where the Jays Stand – Designated Hitter

Call it the Jays’ “steak or burger” position. The steak is David Ortiz, whose age, inflexibility, potential for injury and probable price tag make him a risky proposition as a free agent, but one whose boffo 2011 numbers might help convince suitors that it’s a risk worth taking. The burger is Edwin Encarnacion, a versatile, younger, inexpensive option who is already locked...

White Sox pick up option on RHP Frasor

The Chicago White Sox have exercised their option for $3.75 million on the contract of right-handed reliever Jason Frasor. Frasor combined to go 3-3 with a 3.60 ERA in 64 relief appearances with Toronto and the White Sox in 2011. He was acquired from the Blue Jays with pitcher Zach Stewart for pitcher Edwin Jackson and infielder Mark Teahen on July 27. In 20 games with the White...

Where the Jays Stand – Third Base

The Major League Baseball season is officially over (congrats to the Cards and the retiring-on-top Tony LaRussa), so I don’t have to feel as awkward about addressing off-season positional needs for the Jays while baseball’s top prize is being contested. With that, we take a look at the hot corner (nerdy baseball aside: although it seems like I skipped over shortstop, I was actually...

Where the Jays Stand – First Base

In the second part of our position-by-position series evaluating the Toronto Blue Jays on their 2011 season and looking ahead to 2012, we look at the organization’s first baseman. Initially thought to be a source of stability and long-term growth, Adam Lind’s slide dating back to 2010 has left the position far less of a certainty. The 2011 Guy(s) Starter: Adam Lind Back-Up: Edwin...

It's Over

The 2011 Toronto Blue Jays concluded their season with a 3-2 defeat of the Chicago White Sox this afternoon and finished the year at .500 on the nose. The White Sox held a 2-1 lead entering the ninth, but Chris Sale was unable to find the strike zone, allowing Mark Teahen and Adam Loewen to both draw walks with the bases loaded. Shawn Camp earned the win, as Brandon Morrow struggled...

Stand on Guard 4 Thee

Let's assume Adam Loewen gets into a game this month. If Loewen plays, then the Jays will have had four Canadians on their roster at one time or another this year: Loewen, Brett Lawrie, and Mark Teahen, all of whom are active at the moment, plus Scott Richmond, who got into a single game back in the early season. There has been one other year in which the Jays have had four Canadians...

ChiSox rookie flirts with perfection vs. Twins

MINNEAPOLIS White Sox pitcher Zach Stewart came oh-so-close to pitching a perfect game in just his eighth career start. Instead, the 24-year-old right-hander will settle for a one-hitter and a 4-0 Chicago victory.Twins third baseman Danny Valencia broke up Stewart's chances at history in the eighth inning Monday with a double to right field.
