Despite the loss in Pensacola last night Michael Lorenzen had a nice all-around game. On the mound he allowed just two runs over 5.0 innings on just 68 pitches where he recorded eight outs on the ground compared to just two via the fly ball. Of course that is par for the course for Lorenzen, who has a 60% groundball rate this season. At the plate he also went 1-2 with an infield...
Sorry there was no Prospect Watch yesterday. There were two other planned articles that I thought deserved to keep on the top, so I just didn’t get around to it. Today we are coming back strong though thanks to some strong performances down on the farm.
What Amir Garrett has been doing for the last 18 starts has been incredible. He’s taken himself from a raw, but talented arm...
No game notes today. It took me 21.5 hours to get to Pensacola. I need sleep. The Prospect Watch will have some good info earlier in the morning though.

The first thing that I wanted to do was thank all of you guys who come to the site every day. July of 2014 was the most visited month in the history of the site, topping June of 2009 by a few thousand visits. So really, thanks guys. Tell your friends, tweet out articles, share them on facebook, the more the site grows the better content I can get out there for everyone.
Louisville lost 13-0. Box Score
The Bats were one hit-batter in the ninth inning away from having a perfect game thrown against them. The pitching didn’t do much better as all three pitchers allowed at least three runs and walked more batters than they struck out. It was not a good evening for Louisville, but that’s what makes baseball the best,...
Heading into the final month of the season for the full season teams, most of the moves have been made already as the team likes to split the seasons in half for a lot of guys between two levels if they’ve done enough in the first half. Still, there are some guys out there who have done enough at their current level to warrant moving up. Players mentioned here are mentioned because...

The right hander has been outstanding in 2014 and now has 107 strikeouts and just 27 walks in 119.0 innings pitched. As I tweeted out during the game, no one was touching any of his offspeed...

Former Cub prospect Marquez Smith has bounced around a bit since they released him before last season. What is unusual about his career is that he’s managed to hit well at every stop while moving around to find jobs. It’s no surprise that he’s started off well against single A pitching this season and he could give the Reds another option in their pipeline at third base.
We are a day behind on this series because of the downtime over the weekend, but things should be back on schedule for next week.
