Video: Duke’s Bench Went Insane After Center Marshall Plumlee Hit A Three Against Presbyterian

Marshall Plumlee hit the first three of his career during Duke’s 113-44 win over Presbyterian on Friday. The center’s shot came when the game was already decided, as he made the three with 32 seconds left in the contest. Apparently, Duke’s bench knew that it was the first three of Plumlee’s career, because after the ball went in, everyone went insane. Duke basketball put...

Inside Duke Basketball practice notes 10/17/14

I was fortunate enough to get to attend Duke's practice this afternoon, thanks to my brother who hooked me up.  I'll give a player by player rundown in a moment, but first, it's always impressive to see how well Duke's practices are run.  We were there as part of the Inside Duke Basketball event put on by the Emily K Center.  As we entered we were handed a practice plan, and players...

Duke's slow motion dunk contest is cool

When you think about a Mike Krzyzewski ran practice, a dunk contest probably isn’t what you envision. Yesterday was an exception, however. During Duke’s first day of practice, Coach K allowed his guys to have some fun. Freshmen Justice Winslow and Grayson Allen were a couple of the guys featured. Junior Marshall Plumlee displayed his athletic ability as well.

Video: Marshall Plumlee Visits Virginia Tech Fan At Duke Children’s Hospital

When Duke center Marshall Plumlee heard that there was a young college basketball fan — who we’re pretty sure is named Pierce — at Duke Children’s Hospital, he decided to pay him a visit. The only problem: Pierce was not a Duke fan. Rather, Plumlee found out that he supports the Blue Devils’ ACC rival, Virginia Tech. In a video put out by Duke basketball, Plumlee spent...

Up And Down Seasons Sets Perfect Scene For Duke/UNC Finale

For nearly 100 years houses have been divided and friends have turned foes for two nights during the college hoops season. Separated by less than 20 miles are two of the most storied programs in college basketball history. And it’s that close proximity, long-term success, legendary players and unforgettable games that make Duke/UNC the best rivalry in college hoops. Both teams...

Marshall Plumlee shows some improvement for Duke Basketball

Marshall Plumlee shows some improvement for Duke BasketballVery early in the season it became painfully apparent that this year’s Duke Basketball team lacked any form of a low post presence. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski has intelligently opted for a smaller lineup than he has typically had in the past in order to increase his team’s offensive efficiency. Unfortunately, by having...

ACC Bubble Analysis for 2/23

ACC basketball is fun to watch again. Elite Teams, bubble madness, Hall of Fame Coaches battling, tons of media coverage… It’s what John Swofford always dreamed of. Now about those bubble teams… In my ranking system, any RPI top (100) win is a good win and any RPI top (50) obviously worth more. Any losses outside the RPI top (100) is considered a bad loss, and outside the RPI...

Duke's win over FSU a study in tenacity, rebounding

DURHAM, N.C. -- For this Duke team to reach the kinds of heights it wants to reach, it must contend with the big boys in the ACC. And that's intended both literally and figuratively. No. 18 Duke (16-4, 5-2 ACC) doesn't have a lot of size -- at least, not a lot of traditional size, and not a lot of size that it uses very often. In some of Duke's losses this year -- and even in some...

ACC Winners and Losers of the 2013 ACC/B1G Challenge

This year’s ACC-Big 10 Challenge was very revealing about how the ACC is as a basketball conference this year. There have been a mixture of maruqee wins and ugly losses for ACC teams early this season, but I think we have a handle now about where some teams are. The ACC and Big 10 are the two best basketball leagues this season, and a 6-6 tie did little to separate the two. Who...

No. 10 Duke back to basics with defensive win over No. 22 Michigan

DURHAM, N.C. -- No. 10 Duke (7-2) finally got a win over a ranked team in its fourth try this year, knocking off No. 22 Michigan (5-3) by a 79-69 score. And it wasn't as simple as getting the win, although that was nice too. The Blue Devils grew as a team in the win, which wasn't always a pretty one. 1. Duke's defense might just come around after all. It was jarring to see a Duke...
