I was up late studying for a test, occasionally taking a glance to see how the Bucs were doing. When I finally was ready to go to bed, it was the ninth inning and the Bucs were up a run. Matt Capps was on the mound, and since it was far from a sure thing, [...]

A Bad Time To Be Matt Capps

The calendar shifting from June to July didn't help Pirates closer Matt Capps much last night, as he blew his fifth save in seven opportunities. The Pirates battled back to win the game, 6-5, in Cinicinnati, however, it's small consolation considering the continued implostion...

The Pittburgh Pirates and closer Matt Capps agreed on a 2 year $3.1M contract that will avoid arbitration at the end of the season. BTW Take:Excellent move by the Pirates management to show faith in the talent they do have. This contract is nothing more than a starting poing for a...
Pirates News and Notes: Team looks to ink Capps
Dejan Kovacevic reports in today's Post-Gazette that the Pirates are pursuing a long-term contract with closer Matt Capps. The proposed length could be up to four years, which would take Capps through his arbitration years. I have mixed emotions about this strategy. Capps is obviously...

PHILADELPHIA -- Matt Capps' epic ninth-inning collapse cost the Pirates what had shaped up to be an ultra-satisfying victory, one that instead soured into an 8-7 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Let's keep the damaged goods theme going! DK reports the Pirates are interested in Noah Lowry while Jerry Crasnick says they're intersted in JJ Putz (via MLB Trade Rumors, because Crasnick's link is Insider). Lowry is in the Duchscherer mold; he was a promising young pitcher...

There isn’t much to say about this one. Virgil Vasquez started and was pretty awful (4 runs in 3 innings). The relief efforts of Jeff Karstens (3 runs in 3.2 innings) and Matt Capps (2 runs in 1 inning) didn’t help, either.

A week ago tonight, Pirates closer Matt Capps blew his first save of the season against the Nationals. Unfortunately, as these pictures show, it was all down hill from there. I guess things could be worse for #55. His middle name could be Dicus or something?er?wait.
The Pirates should trade Matt Capps
No, this is not a knee-jerk reaction to Matt Capps' performance in Monday's game. This post has nothing to do with that game. However, for the good of this franchise, Neal Huntington should make Capps available as the trade deadline approaches.
Teams were asking about Capps...

For 7 innings I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe Duke will get us deep enough into the game that the bullpen can't possibly blow the lead." Then, Duke came out of the game with one out in the eighth and Matt Capps came in and I thought, "Oh, this isn't going to...
