Gardy: 'We'll take our chances with (Capps)'
MINNEAPOLIS Matt Capps heard the boos. How could he not? He heard them on more than one occasion, raining down on him from the Minnesota Twins faithful at Target Field.
With closer Joe Nathan still recovering from 2010 Tommy John surgery, Capps was occasionally inserted into the ninth-inning role for Minnesota early in the 2011 season. But Capps struggled mightily. In a span of...

Twins reliever Capps ready to close in 2012
Back in the summer of 2010, Matt Capps was acquired by the Twins in a trade with the Washington Nationals for catcher Wilson Ramos and pitcher Joe Testa. Through Oct. 2 of that first year in Minnesota, Capps was brilliant, converting 16 of 18 save opportunities.
Once Joe Nathan returned Capps was happy to move to the set-up role for the Twins at the start of the 2011 season. However...

M’s Officially Sign Hisashi Iwakuma
As rumored a few days ago, the M’s have come to terms with RHP Hisashi Iwakuma on a one year contract. Per Jerry Crasnick, he’s guaranteed just $1.5 million in salary, and has incentives based on starts and innings pitched that could push the total value of the deal up to $4.9 million.
In other words, it’s a freaking steal. For context, he signed for less guaranteed money...

Full Count: A Twins Offseason on the Brink
Despite losing 99 games in a season sponsored by Murphy’s Law, the Twins entered an offseason in which neither building to contend nor rebuilding really fully made sense. For one, the team lacked the liquid assets required for a rebuild; its more valuable commodities were either inked to long-term deals, or the player was coming off an injury-riddled campaign. Or both.
Secondly...

Farewell 2011
Yet another
year has passed us by and I am headed into my fifth full season of operating
this blog.
Strange how
things happen over five years. It is amazing to me how this went from being a
place where I posted my personal thoughts and findings -- doing so shrouded in anonymity
because I was partially ashamed to admit that I was “blogging” (the word just
sounds awful, right...

The Twins are playing the waiting game with Cuddyer. Is it worth it?
Since the Twins locked up Jamey Carroll, Ryan Doumit and Matt Capps, their interest in the free agent market is at a standstill. That logjam is none other than Michael Cuddyer.
The Twins reportedly have an offer on the table for the veteran, one that is worth three years and $24 million, and are waiting for a decision.
The waiting game on Cuddyer is contingent on him exploring...

Twins make moves to stamp 99 losses as aberration
(Eds: With AP Photos.) By DAVE CAMPBELL AP Sports Writer The Minnesota Twins obviously haven't let a 99-loss season push them toward rebuilding mode.
Considering the signings of role-playing veteran free agents Jamey Carroll and Ryan Doumit, the retention of closer Matt Capps and the pursuit of outfielder of Michael Cuddyer, general manager Terry Ryan and the rest of the organization...

Closer market shrinking quickly
DALLAS — The game of musical chairs for closers is just about over.
Still standing, and rapidly losing leverage: Free agents Ryan Madson, Francisco Cordero and the Oakland Athletics, who are trying to trade Andrew Bailey.
The Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds, the only contenders still looking for closers, seemingly are in good position to strike bargains.
We...

Rauch done but Mets still looking
While some are still calling it close, others are saying it's done pending a physical. It appears Jon Rauch will join the Mets on a one year deal for approx. 3.5 M. It's a little bit more then I expected them to spend on a set-up man/closer competitor but Matt Capps with similar numbers set the market. Capps deal was for 4.75M in the first year and a second year at 6M but...

Capps Returns to Minnesota
The market for relief pitchers is out of control this off-season. After seeing Jonathan Papelbon and Heath Bell sign lucrative, long-term deals, the Twins chose to re-sign Matt Capps to a one-year $4.75 million deal. While handing out short-term deals to relievers is typically a smart strategy, Capps wasn’t particularly good last season. Did the Twins make a mistake bringing him...

Winter Meetings Tuesday Morning Bullpen Notes
The Mets need a lot a lot for this upcoming season, and don't have a lot of money to spend on it. One of the key pieces they need is a Closer and possibly a set up man. Here is a quick update on the news surrounding pitchers the Mets have been connected to:
Matt Capps: Will Resign with the Twins, so not an option
Todd Coffey: Mets and Brewers have been connected in possible trade...
