Metro + state: Belleville stops surging Whalers

OHL The host Belleville Bulls used 40 shots on goal to overpower the Plymouth Whalers, 5-1, Saturday night. Adam Payerl and Brady Austin each had a goal and an assist for Belleville (20-13). John Chartland made 33 saves. Danny Vanderwiel scored late in the first period for Plymouth on an assist by Andy Bathgate. Matt Mahalak stopped 35 shots.

Metro + state: Whalers blank the Generals

OHL Andy Bathgate scored twice, and Matt Mahalak made 30 saves as the Plymouth Whalers beat the host Oshawa Generals, 5-0, Friday night. Stefan Noesen, Rickard Rakell and Alex Aleardi also scored for Plymouth (22-8-2-1). Garrett Meurs and Jamie Devane added two assists each. The Whalers had 39 shots on goal.
