Not enough Starting Pitching depth
Last year the rotation was the most stable it has been in years, aside from the starting five only four other pitchers made starts (D.J.Carrasco, Chris Young, Chris Schwinden, Miguel Batista). That's not typical and I'm not talking about the Mets, that's league wide, you generally need at least eight starters to make it through a season. For example a truer reflection...

Mets spring training strategy..
The Mets may have stopped attempting to sign players to minor league contracts because of the new CBA. As I reported before the new CBA forces teams to pay veterans 100k if they don't make the club out of spring training and even if they pay the fee, the veteran can opt for free agency by June 1st. It's because of this new rule that some believe the Mets are going to...

Z-Cap: Batista reaches 100th victory as Mets defeat Marlins 7-5
I’m not sure anyone expected 40-year-old Miguel Batista, who hadn’t won a start since July of last year, to come out and toss the kind of game he did tonight. The 17-year veteran pitched six strong innings against the Marlins while allowing only two runs en route to his 100th career win.

And By The Way… Miguel Batista Pitched A Gem Yesterday
BATISTA TOSSED A GEM IN SEASON FINALE
Lost amid all the celebration and controversy of Jose Reyes leaving yesterday’s game in the first inning and ultimately securing the batting title, was the brilliant effort by 40-year old starter Miguel Batista.
The veteran right-hander tossed a heck of a game – a complete game two-hitter that helped the Mets end their season on...
