Why Mike Grier Would be a Perfect Fit in Nashville
Mike Grier is one of those wingers who isn’t the most dynamic player, doesn’t score a lot of goals, and isn’t a “one-man” show, however his play is defined by his experience, his grit, and his smooth playing skills on the ice.
The 36 year old veteran winger is coming off his 14th season scattered around the NHL. Recently with Buffalo, he’s also played with...

One of the most popular Sabres is returning to the team for the 2010-11 season. Mike Grier agreed to a one-year contract extension on Monday.
The right winger scored nine goals and 22 points in 78 regular season games in 2009-10, as well as a pair of goals in the Sabres' first round series against the Bruins. But he provided a steady hand of leadership and various other intangibles...

ESPN Wants You To Know Rare U.S. Black NHLer Retired Today
Mike Grier announced today that his 14-year career in the NHL is over. Of course ESPN took this as an opportunity to remind you that U.S. black guys don’t play hockey and that contrary to what you’ve been told, U.S. black dudes playing hockey is rare. Did you read that carefully. Black guys from Detroit, Pittsburgh, Boston, etc. don’t play hockey. Don’t make it to the NHL...

Sabres Sign Mike Grier
Does this mean that the Sabres are now committed to winning? Seems to me that the Sabres have only added to their reputation of not being committed to winning since Mike Grier walked out the door three years ago with unkind things to say about the Buffalo organization.
And yet, Mike Grier is a Sabre again. [...]

Tough Loss For Grier
from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News, Mike Grier was still sitting by himself in the far corner of the quiet visitors’ dressing room in Wells Fargo Center about 20 minutes after the season ended, in full equipment with his head buried in his hands. He was in tears while thinking about the game, the year to remember, his future.
You don’t come across many people like Grier...

As always, Mike Grier was game, but he also wanted to be selective. If he were going to continue his NHL career, the 36-year-old winger wanted it to be back in Buffalo, one of the four cities he called home over his 1,060-game career, or here in Boston.

Sabres Blow Chance to Gain Ground
The Buffalo Sabres summarized their season last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. When you only get scoring from your “energy” line – you are not going to compete against teams like Pittsburgh. It was nice to see guys like Grier and Gaustad on the scoresheet, but when they are the only two on the team to put the puck in the net, your not going to win many hockey games...
