The Florida Marlins have designated Mike Lamb for assignment to make room for highly touted slugger Mike Stanton. The move was announced before Tuesday night's game against the Phillies. Stanton was in the lineup in right field and batting seventh. Stanton wowed the Marlins during spring training with his power, but the 20-year-old outfielder was sent to Double-A Jacksonville for seasoning.

Revamping the bench
The offensive woes the Marlins are currently facing stems from poor performance by several of the starters. But the bench is not helping matters, having combined for a poor .267 wOBA. There are a couple of guys in AAA who could help this cause though.

Fish-Cap: Marlins undone by bullpen, Braves
In two of the three games this series, the Marlins were afforded a tight lead over the Atlanta Braves late in the game. In all three games, the two teams were very close. In the two Marlins losses, however, the bullpen disastrously blew the games wide open with horrendous pitching. Games 2 and 3 were some of the worst bullpen performances that I have witnessed in recent memory.

Bryan Petersen, who has seen limited playing time, was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans after the Marlins' 7-3 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night.
The team didn't announce who would get brought up. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the team would announce who is getting the call up on Thursday.
